River City Brass Band to perform in Allegheny Township

The River City Brass Band will play a concert, “Sounds of the 60s” to benefit the Kiski Area Education Foundation at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14 in the high school auditorium, 240 Hyde Park Road, Allegheny Township.

Youth football association collecting shoes for charity

Allegheny Valley Youth Football Association is collecting gently-used and new shoes from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays through Feb. 15 at Veterans Memorial Field, Lincoln Avenue, Springdale.

Shoes will be redistributed through the Funds2Orgs network of small business partners and helps them to create, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries.

Other drop-off locations include Springdale Free Public Library, 331 School St.; Legends of Pittsburgh Performance and Fitness Center, Pittsburgh Mills Mall; Dimensions in Hair by Kathy Miller, 925 Pittsburgh St., Springdale; and Riverview Abbey Carpet and Floor, 516 Jones St., Verona.

Family center to hold diaper distribution

Highlands Family Center is partnering with the Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank to provide free diapers to local families.

Free diapers will be distributed from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month at the center, 415 E. Fourth Ave., Tarentum.

Bring your child or your child’s birth certificate. There is a limit of one distribution per child per month.

Donations to the effort are also being accepted. Diapers can be dropped off at the center during business hours. For details, call the center at 724-224-9006.

Bowling party to aid Animal Protectors

Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley will host, “Pins for Pets” a benefit bowling party at 3 p.m. Feb. 23 at Nesbit Bowling Lanes, 3501 Leechburg Road, Plum.

Cost is $20 and includes two games, shoes, pizza, cake, pop and snacks. There will be a basket auction and 50/50 raffle.

April 4: A 90s bingo will be at 7 p.m. at Oklahoma School House Hall, 171 Thorn St. Doors open at 5 p.m. Cost: $20 includes supplies. There will be instant tickets, a 50/50 raffle, food, drinks, a DJ and a 90s costume contest. Reserved seating available for groups of eight or more. Must be at least 21 to attend.
