Scam seminar planned in New Kensington
The office of Sen. Jim Brewster will host a free seminar about how senior citizens can avoid scams at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Alle-Kiski Valley Center for Active Adults, 1039 Third Ave., New Kensington.
The office of the Pennsylvania Attorney General will present the workshop. The public is welcome.

Banners available to honor Harrison veterans
The Harrison Township Honor Roll Restoration Committee is selling banners to honor township residents who served in the Armed Forces.
Proceeds will help raise funds to restore the memorial. The double-sided banners will be printed by Gray Signs and measure 24 x 30-inches. Cost is $175 and includes banner, hardware, photo scanning and installation.

Children’s bird house workshop set in West Deer
West Deer Parks and Recreation Board will offer a children’s workshop to build a bluebird house at 6 p.m. March 13 in the township municipal building, 109 East Union Road.
Game Officer Campbell from the Pennsylvania Game Commission will be the instructor. Children age 6 to 13 welcome. Participants are asked to bring a portable drill that can be used with drywall screws. Parents are welcome to attend and assist their children. Cost is $5. Space is limited and registration is required.

Lock Kickoff to aid Allegheny River lock operations
Allegheny River Development Corporation will sponsor the sixth annual Lock Kickoff Fundraiser March 7 at Futules’ Harmar House, 1321 Freeport Road, Harmar.
Doors open at 5 p.m. and a buffet dinner will be at 6. There will be music, dancing, a silent auction and 50/50 raffles.
