Annual Shamrock Shuffle event planned in West Leechburg
The St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock Shuffle 5K and one-mile Fun Walk will begin at 10 a.m. March 23 at West Leechburg Firehall, 1116 Gosser St.
The course will run through the streets of West Leechburg and return to the fire hall. A virtual option is also available. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. Cost is $25 for the live 5K, and $20 for the live Family Walk and both virtual events.
Participants must register by March 6 to be guaranteed a race t-shirt. Costumes are encouraged and leashed furry friends are welcome. To register, visit sempergratuspgh.org/events. Lower Burrell Citizen Police Academy accepting applications
The Lower Burrell Citizen Police Academy will begin March 7 at the city municipal building. Classes will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays for 10 weeks with the exception of March 28.
Applicants must be 18 years or older, residents of Lower Burrell and submit to a background investigation. Class size is limited to 25.
The program is designed to promote partnerships through education. Participants will be provided with a wide range of information intended to help better understand the goals and objectives, rules, responsibilities and legal parameters under which the police department functions.

Drive-thru Valentine meal to benefit Peoples Library
Peoples Library will sponsor drive-thru takeout meal from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12 with pick-up in the parking lot behind the New Kensington location, 880 Barnes St.
The menu is by Hoffstot’s Café Monaco and will include stuffed pepper soup with crackers, braised beef pot roast with natural jus, smashed red potatoes, broccoli and a mini cherry parfait.
