Musical fundraiser to benefit New Kensington K-9 officer

A fundraiser to benefit K-9 Officer Deuce of the New Kensington Police Department and his handler Patrolman Joe Martino will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Bird Dogs Sports Bar and Grill, 2615 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, Harrison.

Guest CMA artist Jack Michael will sing and radio station Y108 will be on hand. There will be a 50/50 raffle and basket auction.

The event was organized by Kaley Bastline, 7, who is a second-grader at Highlands Elementary School, Harrison.


Ice skating event to aid THON group

The Penn State New Kensington THON group will sponsor an ice skating benefit from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Center Ice Arena, 100 Center Ice Drive, Delmont.

Admission is $5, and skate rental is $1. There will be a DJ and games.

Proceeds will benefit the Four Diamonds Fund against pediatric cancer.


Free family movie night planned in Plum

A free family Winter Movie Night will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Plum Municipal Building, 4575 New Texas Road, suite D.

Pre-show activities will begin at 6 p.m. and the featured film will be, “Abominable,” rated PG. Free popcorn will be provided by the Plum Rotary Club.

Lock Kick-off fundraiser planned March 7

Allegheny River Development Corporation will sponsor the sixth annual Lock Kickoff Fundraiser March 7 at Futules’ Harmar House, 1321 Freeport Road, Harmar.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and a buffet dinner will be at 6. There will be music, dancing, a silent auction and 50/50 raffles.

March 4 to April 22: Valley Points Family YMCA will offer a drawing class for children age 6 and older and adults at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at the Kiski Valley branch, 511 Hyde Park Road. Participants will need to bring a sketch pad no smaller than 8 ½ x 11, 2B and 4B drawing pencils, one soft and one medium non-mechanical charcoal pencil, an ultrafine point black marker and a white eraser. New Kensington

Friday: East Kensington Community Circle will have salad bingo at 6 p.m. in the community circle building, 1785 Seventh St. Road. Cost: $5, includes one board, a chance to win a door prize, salad buffet, dessert and coffee. Public welcome.

Oakmont

Friday: The free movie series at 7 p.m. at Oakmont Presbyterian Church, 415 Pennsylvania Ave. will feature the film, “Overcomer,” rated PG, in the church multi-purpose room on the lower level. Free popcorn. Details: 412-828-5770

Feb. 12: Oakmont Carnegie Library will offer a new True Crime Book Club at 6:30 p.m. at the library, Allegheny River Blvd. The selection for March will be, “Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered: The Definitive How-to Guide” by Georgia Hardstark and Karen Kilgariff. Stop in and pick up a copy to read for the March 12 meeting. The club will then meet the second Thursday of each month. Details: 412-828-9532

Springdale

Feb. 12: Springdale Free Public Library will offer adult craft workshops at 1:30 and 6 p.m. at the library, 331 School St. Attend either session. The project will be a picture frames. Vandergrift

Washington Township

April 5: Space applications are being accepted for an auto parts swap meet set for 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Washington Township Volunteer Fire Co., Route 66. Cost: 12 x 24-foot space, $25; 12 x 48-foot space, $45; inside 32-foot space, $55. Vendor set up will begin at 11 p.m. April 4. First come, first served. Items will include parts and accessories from anything automotive, classic, high performance, trucks, cars, motorcycles or boats. Food and beverages will be sold inside.
