Bowl-A-Thon to raise funds for Burrell Education Foundation
The annual Burrell Education Foundation Bowl-A-Thon will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 18 at Wildlife Lanes, 1000 Wildlife Lodge Road, Lower Burrell.
Cost is $25 per bowler; $45 for two; and $90 for a team of four and includes bowling and shoe rental. There will be a silent auction and 50/50 raffle. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
The Bowl-A-Thon benefits the foundation’s educational, cultural and recreational activities for residents of Upper and Lower Burrell. Native plants to be studied at workshop
A free workshop about plants that are native to Western Pennsylvania will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Community Library of Allegheny Valley, 1522 Broadview Blvd., Harrison.
Those attending will make a planter of native plants and representatives of the Rachel Carson Homestead, Pucketos Garden Club and Penn State Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions. Soup cook-off planned by Brackenridge American Legion Auxiliary
The Brackenridge American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor a soup cook-off Saturday at the post, 845 First Ave.
Bring your best soup in a roaster or stock pot by 12:30 p.m., and your recipe if you wish to share it. Sampling and judging will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. by all adults who attend and winners will be announced at 3 p.m. Soup will be sold beginning at 2:30 p.m. as a fundraiser for the auxiliary, takeout or dine in and prizes will be awarded.
