Annual bird count event planned in Harrison Hills Park

Friends of Harrison Hills Park will sponsor the annual Great Backyard Bird Count from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 17 and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 18 at the park environmental learning center in Harrison.

Bird watchers of all ages are welcome to count for as little as 15 minutes or the entire time. A 30-minute walk with Allegheny County Park Rangers will be Feb. 17 and experienced birders will be on hand on Feb. 18.

Concordia speakers bureau offers presentations

The Concordia Lutheran Ministries Speakers Bureau has senior-care professionals available to speak to organizations and community groups free of charge.

Topics available include fall prevention, chronic disease management, senior nutrition, senior living, advance directives, end of life decision making, health and wellness, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease education, nutrition for a healthy lifestyle and more. A full list of topics is available.

Dine in or takeout; quarts of soup to go, $8. Proceeds will be donated to the Brad and Chrissy Rupert family who lost their home in a house fire.

Feb. 24: The Avonmore Library Winter Social will be from noon to 2 p.m. at the library and civic center, 423 Westmoreland Ave. There will be a soup cook-off and lunch fundraiser, STEAM activities and more.
