Christmas tree recycling offered

Allegheny County is offering its annual Christmas tree recycling program from 8 a.m. to dusk through Tuesday at all nine regional parks.

Local parks include:

• Boyce Park, Plum: soccer fields parking lot

• Deer Lakes Park, West Deer: Veterans Shelter parking lot

• Harrison Hills Park, Natrona Heights, Harrison: parking lot at the intersection of Chipmunk and Cottontail drives.

• Hartwood Acres Park, Indiana Township: mansion parking lot

Superhero and Princess tea party to benefit American Cancer Society

Highlands Area Relay for Life will sponsor a Superhero and Princess Tea Party to benefit the American Cancer Society from noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 15 in Patterson Hall at Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1526 Union Ave., Natrona Heights, Harrison.

Children can visit with princesses and super heroes and there will be an ice cream bar for a small fee and basket raffle for adults and children. Costumes are welcome, but not required.

Cost is $5 for adults; $10 per child and children 3 and younger are free. All children attending must have tickets. Advance tickets only, with no refunds. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Feb. 1: Boy Scout Troop 551 of Hyde Park will host its 35th annual all you can eat spaghetti dinner from 3 to 7 p.m. at Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church, 271 Main St. Menu: spaghetti, salad and bread. Cost: $8; children younger than 10, $6. Dine in or take out. Proceeds will benefit troop activities and camping supplies. Details and tickets: 724-845-9288

Saxonburg

Monday: Free child development screenings by licensed therapists from Positive Steps Therapy will be available at South Butler County Library, 240 W. Main St. Language development, articulation and fine and gross motor skills will be assessed. Results will be available at the end of each 15-20 minute appointment. Reservations required. Vandergrift

Monday: A new Chess Club for children in kindergarten through eighth grade will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays through March 23 at Vandergrift Public Library, 128C Washington Ave. No experience necessary. A local chess master and volunteers will work with children and teach basic moves and strategy. Registration is encouraged, but drop-ins are welcome. Registration: 724-568-2212
