Leechburg Elks to host annual hoop shoot event

The annual Leechburg Elks children’s Hoop Shoot competition will be Jan. 20 in the Leechburg Area High School gymnasium, Center Avenue.

Boys and girls age 8 to 13 from the Alle-Kiski Valley and Armstrong County areas are eligible. Doors open at noon for registration and the free competition will begin at about 12:15 p.m. Children will be registered according to their age as of April 1, 2024.

Saturday: The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek will present a free program about the Northern Cardinal bird for elementary school children and their families at 10 a.m. at the center, 142 Kerr Road. There will be a nature lesson, a short hike and a craft to make a treat for the birds. Reservations required. Reservations: armstrongodc.org.

Saturday: The American Legion, 845 First Ave., will feature the 56 East Band from 7 to 11 p.m. There will be a lottery board and 50/50. No cover charge. Public welcome.

East Vandergrift

Sunday: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish will have bingo at 2:30 p.m. in the church social hall, 411 McKinley Ave. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. There will be a 57-number jackpot game, a 43-number picture frame game and a magic number game for over $384. Details: 724-478-4958.

Harrison 

Today: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50-50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Saturday: The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights. Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles. First-time recipients must provide their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.

Sunday: The Knights of Columbus will host a pancake and sausage breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the council home, 28 Garfield St., Natrona. Cost: $7; younger than 6, $4.

Jan. 20: Harvest Church will have a free community movie night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Allegheny North Campus, 1207 Pacific Ave., Natrona Heights. The featured film will be “Big Hero 6” rated PG. Today: The Mobile Veterans Program will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1601 Wildlife Lodge Road. There will be coffee, conversation, games and Gerofit exercise. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. followed by crafts and games. Sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs, all veterans are welcome.

Saturday: The Veterans of Foreign Wars will feature the G6 band from 8 to 11 p.m. at the post. Members and three guests welcome.

New Kensington  

Jan. 20: A Penguin Hockey ticket raffle to benefit Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley will be at 1 p.m. on Facebook Live. Tickets are for the 7 p.m. Jan. 27 game versus the Montreal Canadiens at PPG Paints Arena and include a Penguins gift basket. Cost: $10 per chance. Parks Township
