Meetings to discuss bus routes planned

Community meetings are scheduled this month to learn more about bringing bus lines to local communities in the Allegheny Valley.

Meeting dates and locations include:

• 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St., Tarentum.

• 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 28 Garfield St., Natrona, Harrison.

• 7 p.m. Jan. 27, at the Brackenridge borough building, 1000 Brackenridge Ave. Hosted by Brackenridge Improvement Group.

Residents are encouraged to attend. The campaign is led by the Building Block of Natrona and supported by the Highlands partnership network, and supported by a grant from the Three Rivers Community Foundation.


College baseball camp offered at Penn State New Kensington

Penn State New Kensington will host a baseball prospect camp from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at the college athletics center, Upper Burrell.

Players who will graduate in the classes of 2020 through 2023 are welcome.

Cost is $25 if received by Thursday; and will be $40 after that date. Participants will receive instruction from the college coaching staff and learn more about the college baseball recruiting process. Exit velocity, infield and pitching velocity and catching pop times will be taken.

Clothing distribution offered in Harrison

A free clothing and toy distribution will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Word of Faith Christian Fellowship, 42 Chestnut St., Natrona, Harrison.


Valentine’s Day luncheon set in Brackenridge

The Tarentum Recreation Board will sponsor a Valentine’s Day luncheon at 1 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Brackenridge American Legion, 845 First Ave.

Cost is $20 each. The menu includes chicken, stuffed cabbage, penne pasta, potatoes, vegetable, rolls, cake and beverage. Entertainment will be by Nick Fiasco.

Saturday: Tri-County Trout Club will host its 15th annual sports show and flea market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Arnold No. 2 Volunteer Fire Department Social Center, 1720 Fifth Ave. Admission: $3; children 12 and younger are free. Proceeds will benefit the annual Burrell Lake Park Kids’ Fishing Derby.

Harrison

Jan. 28 and 30: Allegheny Valley Hospital PriorityCare program will offer the two-day AARP Smart Driver Program from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Charles Young Center of the hospital, 1301 Carlisle St. Participants must bring a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license. Fee: $15 for AARP members (valid card required); $20 for non-members. Reservations required. Reservations: 412-330-4469

Allegheny Valley Hospital offers kidney program

Allegheny Valley Hospital’s PriorityCare program will host a free Kidney Smart class at 1 p.m. Jan. 29 in the hospital Charles W. Young Conference Center, 1301 Carlisle St, Natrona Heights, Harrison.

Topics will include how kidneys function, chronic kidney disease, how to best manage the disease, treatment choices, help with diets and exercise.
