Food drive to benefit Westmoreland County Food Bank

The Fallen Officer Food Drive will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 29 at Mogie’s Irish Pub & Magill’s Grill, 3210 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell.

Canned goods and non-perishable items will be collected to replenish the shelves at the Westmoreland County Food Bank. The event is in memory of fallen Lower Burrell police officer Derek Kotecki and New Kensington officer Brian Shaw.


Outdoor Discovery Center to present family movie

The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek will host a free screening of the movie, “Stranger In The Woods,” at 6 p.m. Friday at the center, 142 Kerr Road, Bethel Township.

The movie runs 25 minutes and is appropriate for families with children. The film is a journey into the woods with two snowdrifts who introduce their forest friends and remember a mysterious stranger who once visited.

Friday: St. Vladimir Church, 1610 Kenneth Ave., is accepting orders for its weekly pierogi sale. Varieties: potato and sauerkraut. Pickup: 12:30 to 4 p.m. Fridays at the church social hall. Brackenridge
