Annual Epiphany event planned in New Ken

The Catholic parishes of New Kensington will present the annual Epiphany Experience at 2 p.m. Sunday in St. Joseph Church, 1125 Leishman Ave.

Prelude music will begin at 1:30 p.m. The event will include lessons and carols, scripture readings, carol singing and live animals. A joint choir that includes members of St. Joseph, St. Mary of Czestochowa and Mt. St. Peter churches will lead the singing.


Free workshop to discuss winter seed sowing

Leechburg Public Library will host a free Penn State Extension workshop, “Winter Sowing” for adults from 6 to 7 p.m. Jan. 15 at the library, 139 Market St., Leechburg.

This hands-on class will cover how to start seeds outdoors during the winter using recycled containers as mini-greenhouses. Materials and seeds will be provided.

Apollo/East Vandergrift

Jan. 14: St. James and Our Lady, Queen of Peace parishes will sponsor a bus trip to Rivers Casino, Pittsburgh. The bus will leave at 9 a.m. from the St. James Church parking lot and stay at the casino for five hours. Cost: $30, includes $20 free play. State-issued photo ID required to receive free play. Arnold

Saturday: Arnold United Methodist Church, 1801 Leishman Ave., will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at the church. Menu: choice of plain, blueberry, pecan and chocolate chip pancakes or French toast, sausage and drink. Dine in or takeout. Cost: $9; 12 and younger, $7. Details: 724-339-2377.

Freeport

Saturday: St. Mary Mother of God Church will sponsor a diaper pantry for those in need from 10 a.m. to noon on the lower level of the church Family Community Center, 407 Freeport Road. Use the back door entrance to the lower level. First-time recipients must provide their ID, the child’s birth certificate and their current WIC or SNAP card. Registration required. Sunday: St. Mary, Mother of God Parish will host bingo at 6:30 p.m. at the parish community center, 407 Freeport Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. There will be a $750 must-go jackpot.

Harrison

Today: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50-50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Jan. 9: Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary is selling tickets for a $250 cash raffle. The drawing will be at 3 p.m. Jan. 9. Cost: $2 per ticket; cash and checks accepted. Tickets will be sold from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Jan. 9 in the hospital lobby, 1301 Carlisle St. Proceeds will benefit auxiliary projects for the hospital.

Jan. 17: Tri-County Trout Club is accepting table reservations for its annual sport show and flea market planned at Patterson Hall at Guardian Angels Parish, 800 Montana Ave. Vendors must sell new, used or collectable fishing, hunting, camping or sports items. Kiski Township

Sunday: An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be served from 8 to 11 a.m. at Kiski Township Volunteer Fire Department, 1037 Route 56. Menu: bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, pancakes, French toast, biscuits & gravy and hash browns. Cost: $12; 3 to 12, $6; younger than 3, free.

Lower Burrell

Saturday: The Drop-in Chess Group for adults at Peoples Library will meet at 11 a.m. at the library, 3052 Wachter Ave. Details: 724-339-1021.

New Kensington 

Today: Knead Community Café will be closed for the holidays. The cafe will reopen for breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Sunday: Aluminum City Terrace Bingo Committee will host bingo from 2 to 4:30 p.m. in the activity center. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Cost: $5, includes one board, snacks and drinks; extra boards, $1. There will be a 50-50 raffle. Public welcome.

Tuesday : An American Red Cross community blood drive will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wesley Family Services Wellness Center, 1045 Fourth Ave. Appointments: 800-733-2767 or visit redcrossblood.org and use sponsor code NEWKEN.

Parks Township

Today: Parks Township Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7 p.m. in the firehall, 1119 Dalmation Drive. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Sunday: Parks Township Sportsman’s Club will have a country music jam night from 5 to 8 p.m. at the club, 1111 Shipman Road. Bring your favorite stringed instrument and sing along. Refreshments available. Public welcome. Details: 724-845-2390.

Tarentum 

Saturday: The Clothing Closet at Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Details: 724-224-9220.

Washington Township

Today: Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the firehall, 4078 Route 66. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The kitchen will open and card sales start at 6 p.m. Free coffee. Players must be at least 18 or accompanied by an adult.
