Soup cookoff planned by Brackenridge American Legion Auxiliary

The Brackenridge American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor a soup cook-off Feb. 10 at the post, 845 First Ave.

Bring your best soup in a roaster or stock pot by 12:30 p.m., and your recipe if you wish to share it. Sampling and judging will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. by all adults who attend and winners will be announced at 3 p.m. Soup will be sold beginning at 2:30 p.m. as a fundraiser for the auxiliary, takeout or dine in and prizes will be awarded.

The public is welcome to sample, vote and purchase soup. Entrant registration is required. For details and to register, call Anita at 412-860-6351.


Apollo Meals on Wheels seeking volunteer help

Apollo Area Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteers to help prepare meals and deliver meals to clients.

Hours for kitchen help are 7 to 9 a.m. and drivers 9 to 11 a.m., both Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays. For details, call the office at 724-478-3117.


Help for veterans available in Cheswick

A department service officer from the American Legion will be available by appointment from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month beginning Jan. 24 in the office of Pa. Rep. Mandy Steele, 1296 Pittsburgh St., Cheswick.

Distributions will be the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Recipients must register in advance. Items available include clothing for all members of the family, shoes, purses, blankets and linens. First-time customers receive 15 free items. Winter clothing donations welcome during business hours.
