Food drive planned Saturday in Lower Burrell
The annual Fallen Officers Food Drive to benefit local food banks will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Mogie’s Restaurant, 3210 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell.
The event is sponsored in memory of Lower Burrell officer Derek Kotecki and New Kensington Officer Brian Shaw who were both killed in the line of duty.
Free spaghetti dinner for veterans planned Saturday
The Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will host a spaghetti dinner for veterans from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the post, 894 Veterans Lane, Harrison.
Dinners for veterans with proof of service will be free and the cost for spouses and guests is $10. The menu will include spaghetti, bread, salad and dessert. There will be cash bar. The band Woodland Twang will perform afterward from 8 to 11 p.m. The public is welcome. For details, call the post at 724-904-7649.
Dinner to aid Freeport volunteer
Dynamic Community Foundation will host a barbeque buffet dinner and evening of music to benefit Jackie Gaughan of Freeport from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Laube Hall, Freeport.
Gaughan started and coordinated the “Feeding Freeport,” campaign that produced and delivered nearly 25,000 free meals during the covid-19 pandemic. She is recovering from a bleeding brain aneurysm and proceeds will help with medical bills.
Cost is $20; 12 and younger, $15, and includes a macaroni and cheese and barbeque buffet by Fat N Nat Barbeque of Freeport. There will be a cookie table, basket raffles and a 50/50. Entertainment will be by the Noble Hops Band.

Feb. 6: A 10-week course of beginner bridge lessons will be offered at 6 p.m. at Community Library of Allegheny Valley, 1522 Broadview Blvd. Dates are Feb. 6, 13 and 20, March 6, 13 and 20, April 3, 10 and 17 and May 1. Saturday: The Leechburg Pink Day Extravaganza event will begin at 6 p.m. at the Marconi Club, 135 River Ave. Doors open at 5 p.m. Bands will include Lenny Collini Family Pak, 56 East Band and Pat & Dave. Free admission. There will be food, a cash bar, raffles and a silent auction. Proceeds benefit the Pink Day fundraiser.

Feb. 19: Burrell Youth Wrestling Season Ticket Holder Club is selling tickets for a cash raffle. Cost: $100, only 300 tickets will be sold. Grand prizes are $10,000, $5,000 and $2,000.
