Lenten fish fries information wanted

Today is the last day of January and Lent is just around the corner! The Valley News Dispatch is compiling a list of fish fries taking place Ash Wednesday and/or Fridays during Lent.

Superhero and Princess Tea party fundraiser planned Feb. 15

Highlands Area Relay for Life will sponsor a Superhero and Princess Tea Party to benefit the American Cancer Society from noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 15 in Patterson Hall at Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1526 Union Ave., Natrona Heights, Harrison.

Children can visit with princesses and super heroes and there will be an ice cream bar for a small fee and basket raffle for adults and children. Costumes are welcome, but not required.

Cost is $5 for adults; $10 per child and children 3 and younger are free. All children attending must have tickets. Advance tickets only, with no refunds. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Family dinner to aid Humane Society of Westmoreland County

The fourth annual Festival of Love Family Dinner will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 14 at Salem Lutheran Church, 301 E Pittsburgh St., Delmont.

The menu includes spaghetti, tossed salad and bread. Those attending are asked to bring a dessert to share.

There will be a DJ, dancing, crafts and games. Donations will be accepted to benefit the Humane Society of Westmoreland County.

Reservations are required. For reservations, call 724-468-4189 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. Reservation deadline is Feb. 12.


Volunteers needed at Freeport Area Meals on Wheels

Freeport Area Meals on Wheels is seeking volunteers of all ages to cook, pack and deliver meals.

Deliveries are made to residents in Freeport, Buffalo Township, South Buffalo to Slate Lick, Saxonburg to Winfield and Cabot.

Lower Burrell Lions broom sale continues

Lower Burrell Lions will continue to sell broom during the year at the city tax office and Ideal Cleaners on Leechburg Road.

Sunday: An all you can eat breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to noon at Kiski Township Fire Hall, 1037 Route 56. Menu: scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, home fries, hash browns, French toast, pancakes, toast, biscuits and gravy, waffles and mush. Cost: $9; 4 to 12, $5.50; 2 to 3, $2; younger than 2, free.

Lower Burrell

Feb. 15: The American Legion will host a Valentine’s Dinner Dance from at the post, 1100 Wildlife Lodge Road. Dinner reservation times will be from 4 to 7 p.m. and DJ Tink and Scott Heavner’s Studio B Service will play oldies at 8 p.m. Menu: chicken piccata with red roasted potatoes, $25; or prime rib with Italian-style jumbo shrimp and baked potato, $35; both with seasonal vegetables, house salad and wedding soup. Reservations required. Reservations: stop in at the post. Public welcome.

Oakmont

Feb. 8: Oakmont Carnegie Library will have a free Valentine STEAM (science, technology, engineering and math) program for elementary school children who are at least in kindergarten at 1 p.m. at the library, 700 Allegheny River Blvd. Registration required. Plum

Wednesday: Hilliard Greene will present a performance and workshop about music associated with the Underground Railroad at 6:30 p.m. Plum Community Library, 445 Center New Texas Road. Formerly musical director for jazz vocalist Jimmy Scott, Greene is the leader of The Jazz Expressions. Registration required. Registration: plumlibrary.org

Vandergrift

Tuesday and Wednesday: Vandergrift Public Library will sponsor Valentine’s Day story times for children at the library, 128C Washington Ave. Children age 3 to 8 can attend at 6 p.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. Wednesday will be for children 2 and younger. West Deer

Feb. 9: The Youth Mission team at East Union Presbyterian Church will host a date night babysitting event for children age 3 to 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the church community center, 292 E. Union Road. Cost: $10 per child; $25 maximum per family, includes dinner. Reservations required by Sunday. Proceeds will benefit the youth mission trip to North Carolina. Reservations: camc@consolidated.net
