Annual St. Joseph golf fundraiser set for Sept. 18

The 28th annual Spartan Golf Scramble will be Sept. 18 at Lenape Heights Golf Resort, Manor Township.

Registration and photographs will be at 10:30 a.m., followed by a picnic lunch, golf, dinner and an auction. Non-golfers are welcome to attend the dinner and auction at 5:30 p.m. Cash bar.

Cost is $150 per person and includes lunch, cart and dinner. Dinner tickets are $50. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Sponsorships and registrations should be confirmed by Aug. 28.

Campmeeting Association plans services in Harrison

The Pittsburgh-Tarentum Campmeeting Association, 1451 Main St., Natrona Heights, Harrison, will have a service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the campground. The Rev. Jeff Youell will be the speaker.

The Rev. Dick Samuels from Cadogan Union Church will preach at a service at 7 p.m. Wednesday.


Kennywood tickets sales moved indoors today

Because of the heat, ticket sales for the Oakmont/Verona Kennywood Day will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Oakmont Chamber of Commerce office, 504 Allegheny River Blvd.

Tickets will still be sold from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in front of Oakmont Bakery.


Saved By Grace plans outdoor worship service and lunch

Saved By Grace will have an outdoor worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the church yard, 739 Prospect St., Brackenridge.

Lunch will be served afterward. Bring a camp chair.


Vandergrift Public Library now accepting donations

Vandergrift Public Library is accepting donations of books, DVDs, audio books and puzzles during operating hours 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays at the library, 128C Washington Ave.

Materials for donation should not be old, musty or moldy. Used books must be in gift giving condition. No technical books, textbooks, condensed books or outdated health and technology books will be accepted.

Please do not leave items outside the library if it is closed.


Harrison Hills Park to offer program about remedies

Friends of Harrison Hills Park will offer a free program, “Helpful Remedies with a Park Naturalist,” from 2 to 4 p.m. July 18 at the park Environmental Learning Center, Natrona Heights.

Participants will visit the raised memorial gardens in the park and discover some kitchen garden favorites and design a scented information recipe card for the center sharing box collection.

July 31: Valley Points Family YMCA is sponsoring a Christmas in July raffle for complete one roll each of $20, $10 and $5 scratch-off tickets. Cost: $10 per chance. The winning number will be taken from the July 31 evening Pa. Pick-3 Lottery. Proceeds will benefit the YMCA Financial Assistance Program. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold. Apollo

Saturday and Monday: The Community Clothes Closet, 1129 Kenneth Ave., is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays. Face masks are required, and a maximum of 25 people can be in the store at one time. Donations are welcome.

Sunday: Parks Township Sportsman’s Club will host a Music Night from 7 to 10 p.m. at the club, 1111 Shipman Road. Bring your favorite stringed instrument and sing along. Refreshments available. Members and guests welcome. Details: 724-845-2390

Saturday: A free Movie in the Park will be from 8:30 to 10 p.m. at the soccer fields at Larry Mills Park, Fontana Drive. The featured film will be, “Playing With Fire,” rated PG. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. Bring a blanket or chair or sit in your car. Vehicles will not be permitted to idle, so bring a portable FM radio to receive the simulcast.

Springdale

Saturday: Springdale Free Public Library will begin to observe summer hours: noon to 8 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

Tarentum

Saturday: A fundraiser to benefit Relay for Life will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Seita Jewelers, 215 E. Sixth Ave. Ten percent of each purchase will be donated to Relay for Life. Details: 724-224-9114

July 18: The pancake breakfast at Arnold United Methodist Church is canceled.

July 18: The chicken and biscuit dinner at Calvary Lutheran Church is canceled.

Butler

Aug. 28: The Butler High School Class of 1970 reunion is canceled and rescheduled to be the weekend of Aug. 28, 2121 at Butler Country Club. There are plans for a neighborhood night and golf outing.

Deer Lakes School District

Thursday: The in-person commencement ceremony for the Class of 2020 is canceled.

Fawn

Alle-Kiski Music Day Camp planned for July 26-31 is canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic. Organizers would like to thank those made donations this year.

Ford City

Aug. 29: The Armstrong County Labor Day Parade and Ethnic Feastival are canceled.

Freeport

September: The annual September By the River festival is canceled.  

Harrison

Today: The Highlands Area Relay for Life golf outing is canceled.

Aug. 22: The Wine and Food Festival planned at Burtner House is canceled. No decision on the Harvest Festival has been made yet.

Sunday: The Kiski Township Firemen’s Car Cruise planned at the firehall is canceled.

Leechburg

Sept. 19: The annual Pink Day festival is canceled.

Leechburg High School Class of 1960 Reunion planned for August is postponed until Aug. 7, 2021.

July 22: The Leechburg Area School Board meeting is canceled.

Oakmont

The weekly Mingle on Main events are canceled. Refunds will be sent to vendors who signed up.

South Buffalo

July 18: The fish dinner at South Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department is canceled and will be rescheduled.

Springdale

Springdale High School Alumni Association meetings are suspended until further notice. The Monte Carlo night planned for April 25 will be Oct. 3.

Sept. 12: Springdale Volunteer Fire Department has rescheduled the May Cash Bash to be Sept. 12. Current tickets will be honored in September and the Progressive 50/50 will be drawn. Please hold on to your tickets. The fire department thanks you for your understanding and support and urges everyone to stay safe.

Sept. 13: The craft and vendor fair is canceled.

Tarentum

Thursday: The Daniels & McClain concert planned for Riverview Memorial Park is canceled.
