Online couponing and budgeting seminar offered

Allegheny Family Network will host a free online seminar about couponing and budgeting during the pandemic from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Free grab and go lunch offered Wednesday at Allegheny Valley Church of God

Allegheny Valley Church of God, 216 Catalpa St., New Kensington, will serve free grab and go lunches at noon Wednesday.

Sloppy joes will be served for as long as the food lasts. For details, call 724-335-0994.


TryLife Center accepting donations

The TryLife Center in Lower Burrell is accepting donations of gently-used children’s clothing in sizes newborn through 4T, maternity clothes, highchairs, pack n’ plays, walkers and infant seats.

Other items needed include diapers, wipes and bottles. Items that cannot be accepted are toys, books, games, adult clothing, children’s clothing size 5T and larger, used cribs, used car seats and furniture.

Donations should be dropped off from noon to 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the red donation door at the center, 1155 Wildlife Lodge Road. Any items left outside of these hours will be exposed to the weather.


Food Truck event planned Wednesday in Apollo

The Wheel Good Wednesday food truck event sponsored by the Apollo Events Committee and Apollo Area Historical Society will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the old Stanford lot on Clifford Avenue.

This week’s lineup includes Pgh Crepes and Tommy’s Catering from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Michele’s Mobile Meals, Hoshi, Steel City Chimneys, Kona Ice and Rollin Up Ice Cream from 4 to 8 p.m.

Food truck vendors who would like to participate at a future event should email apolloevents@gmail.com.


Animal Protectors to host virtual bingo

Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley will host a virtual Bow Wow Meow Bingo at 7 p.m. Wednesday online at Zoom.us.

Cost is $25 for one card; $5 for each additional card. There will be 10 games. A gift card prize will be announced before each game and prizes will be mailed to winners.

Allegheny Valley School District

Tuesday: Allegheny Valley School Board will conduct a combined meeting at 7 p.m. in the Acmetonia Elementary School Forum, 300 Pearl Ave., Cheswick. The public is welcome but must adhere to health and safety guidelines.

Apollo

Apollo Area Historical Society Museum has reopened. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays. The current display features vintage toys.

Arnold

Alle-Kiski Music Day Camp planned for July 26-31 is canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic. Organizers would like to thank those made donations this year.

Ford City

Aug. 29: The Armstrong County Labor Day Parade and Ethnic Feastival are canceled.

Freeport

September: The annual September By the River festival is canceled.  

Harrison

Aug. 22: The Wine and Food Festival planned at Burtner House is canceled. No decision on the Harvest Festival has been made yet.

July 30 to Aug. 2: The Fort Armstrong Folk Festival is canceled.

Leechburg

Sept. 19: The annual Pink Day festival is canceled.

South Buffalo

Saturday: The fish dinner planned by South Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department is canceled due to a lack of volunteers and will be rescheduled.

Springdale

Springdale High School Alumni Association meetings are suspended until further notice. The Monte Carlo night planned for April 25 will be Oct. 3.

Sept. 12: Springdale Volunteer Fire Department has rescheduled the May Cash Bash to be Sept. 12. Current tickets will be honored in September and the Progressive 50/50 will be drawn. Please hold on to your tickets. The fire department thanks you for your understanding and support and urges everyone to stay safe.

Sept. 13: The craft and vendor fair is canceled.

Tarentum

West Deer

West Deer Farmers Market is canceled this year.
