Bike run to benefit AK Hope Center

The Ariele Jenniches Memorial Bike Run to benefit the Alle-Kiski Hope Center will be Aug. 10 beginning at the Oklahoma School House Hall, 171 Thorn St., Oklahoma Borough.

Event day check-in will be at 10 a.m. and kickstands up will be at noon. Advance registrations through Aug. 1 will cost $30 per bike and $10 for passenger, and include an event T-shirt, and admission to a pig roast and after party. Admission to the pig roast and concert only is $15. All vehicles are welcome.

Stops will be at Cool Water Saloon in Kiski Township; Lone Star in Avonmore; Woodpeckers in Upper Burrell and Vandergrift American Legion. Apollo Meals on Wheels seeking volunteer help

Apollo Area Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteers to help prepare meals and deliver meals to clients.

Hours for kitchen help are 7 to 9 a.m. and drivers 9 to 11 a.m., both Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays. For details, call the office at 724-478-3117.


LB fire company accepting associate members

Lower Burrell Volunteer Fire Company No. 3, 3255 Leechburg Road, is accepting applications for associate memberships.

Associate members lend their talents to the company by helping with fundraising and administrative functions and other tasks that do not require training or responding to emergencies.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old. For information and to pick up an application, stop in at the firehouse after 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Active and junior member applications are always welcome.

Aug. 14: Our Lady, Queen of Peace and St. James parishes will sponsor a bus trip to Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh. The bus will leave at 9 a.m. from the St. James Church parking lot in Apollo. Avonmore

Today: A bingo to benefit the Avonmore Senior Center will begin at 1 p.m. at the center, 458 Railroad Ave. Doors open at 11 a.m. Packets must be picked by 12:30 p.m. and early birds will begin at 12:45 p.m. There will be a 50-50 raffle, 14 regular games, five specials and a $300 last jackpot game. Harrison  

Today: The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights. Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles. First-time recipients must provide their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.

Sunday/Wednesday: The Pittsburgh-Tarentum Campmeeting Association, 1451 Main St., will have a service at 7 p.m. Sunday with speaker the Rev. Today: The kitchen at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post will be closed.

Today: The ClothesLine Ministry at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 3084 Leechburg Road, will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. Clothing, shoes and purses will be sold buy one, get one free. A bridal gown is available for $50. The jewelry room will be open. Please bring your own bags.

Monday: The Adult Day Care Mobile Veterans Program will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1601 Wildlife Lodge Road. There will be coffee and conversation, seated exercises, games and lunch. A music group will entertain after lunch. Sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs, all veterans are welcome.

The winner receives $1,000 worth of meat from Sprankle’s Markets, a four-burner Char-Broil grill, grill cover, stainless steel utensils and a 20-pound propane tank. Cost: $10, includes two numbers. New Kensington

Today: East Kensington Community Circle will host a bingo in the Community Circle building, 1785 Seventh St., across from Martin Elementary School. Doors open at 11:30. Lunch will be served at noon. Oakmont

Through August 31: Kerr Memorial Museum, 402 Delaware Ave., Oakmont, is featuring an exhibit of elegant fashions of the late 1800s to the Roaring ‘20s at the museum. Parks Township

Tarentum
