Free food to be distributed at Highlands High School

412 Food Rescue will host a Farmers to Families food distribution from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday in the Highlands High School gymnasium, 1500 Pacific Ave., Natrona Heights, Harrison.

This will be a no-contact, drive-up or walk-up food distribution for anyone in need. No registration is required.

Salvation Army offers free lunches

The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center offers free grab and go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays in parking lot at the center, 917 Brackenridge Ave.


Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank open Wednesday

The Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open to anyone in need from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, Harrison.

Food will be bagged in advance and placed into vehicles. To make a donation, visit avaoc.org/donate/financial-support/.


In Our Schools

St. Joseph High School

St. Joseph High School, Harrison, is enrolling students who will enter ninth through 11th grade in the fall.

Transfers are welcome and application fees are waived for students who enroll before fall. Financial aid is available.

Highlands School District

The Highlands School District Pre-K Counts program is accepting student registrations for the 2020-21 school year.

NewKensington-Arnold School District

New Kensington-Arnold School District will conduct kindergarten registration from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 20, 21 and 23.

Children must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31, 2020.

July 31: Valley Points Family YMCA is sponsoring a Christmas in July raffle for complete one roll each of $20, $10 and $5 scratch-off tickets. Cost: $10 per chance. The winning number will be taken from the July 31 evening Pa. Pick-3 Lottery. Proceeds will benefit the YMCA Financial Assistance Program. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold. Today: Allegheny Valley School Board will conduct a combined meeting at 7 p.m. in the Acmetonia Elementary School Forum, 300 Pearl Ave., Cheswick. The public is welcome but must adhere to health and safety guidelines.

Apollo

Apollo Area Historical Society Museum has reopened. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays. The current display features vintage toys.

Arnold

Today: Arnold Council will conduct a public hearing about the Community Development Block Grant program at 7 p.m. in the first room meeting room at the municipal building, 601 Drey St. Details: 724-337-4441

Hyde Park

Indiana Township

Today: Indiana Township Supervisors will hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. followed by the regular meeting at the town hall, 3710 Saxonburg Blvd.

Kiski Township

Lower Burrell

Cancellations and changes

Butler

Aug. 28: The Butler High School Class of 1970 reunion is canceled and rescheduled to be the weekend of Aug. 28, 2121 at Butler Country Club. There are plans for a neighborhood night and golf outing.

Fawn

Alle-Kiski Music Day Camp planned for July 26-31 is canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic. Organizers would like to thank those made donations this year.

Ford City

Aug. 29: The Armstrong County Labor Day Parade and Ethnic Feastival are canceled.

Freeport

September: The annual September By the River festival is canceled.

October: The Freeport Halloween carnival is canceled. 

Harrison

Aug. 22: The Wine and Food Festival planned at Burtner House is canceled. No decision on the Harvest Festival has been made yet.  

Kittanning

July 30 to Aug. 2: The Fort Armstrong Folk Festival is canceled.

Leechburg

Sept. 19: The annual Pink Day festival is canceled.

Leechburg High School Class of 1960 Reunion planned for August is postponed until Aug. 7, 2021.

Leechburg Area School District

July 22: The Leechburg Area School Board meeting is canceled.

Oakmont

Parks Township

Oct. 3: The Cash Giveaway Bash sponsored by Upper Burrell and Parks volunteer fire companies is canceled.

Saxonburg

Sept. 12 and 13: The Saxonburg Festival of the Arts is canceled.

The weekly Mingle on Main events are canceled. Refunds will be sent to vendors who signed up.

Springdale

Oct. 3: The Monte Carlo Night planned by Springdale High School Alumni Association is canceled. Association meetings are suspended until further notice.

Sept. 12: Springdale Volunteer Fire Department has rescheduled the May Cash Bash to be Sept. 12. Current tickets will be honored in September and the Progressive 50/50 will be drawn. Please hold on to your tickets. The fire department thanks you for your understanding and support and urges everyone to stay safe.

Sept. 13: The craft and vendor fair is canceled.

West Deer

West Deer Farmers Market is canceled this year.

July 31 and Aug. 1: West Deer Community Days are canceled.

Aug. 28: The West Deer Police Benefit Golf Scramble that was to be May 1 is rescheduled to be Aug. 28 at Pittsburgh North Golf Course, Richland Township. Cost: $85 per golfer. Registration form: click here.
