Food distribution for veterans planned in Lower Burrell

The Westmoreland County Food Bank will host Military Share, a free food distribution for households who have at least one member who has served or is currently serving in the military, from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 31 at the Lower Burrell Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1601 Wildlife Lodge Road.

In-person registration is required. Registrations will be accepted from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday and 5 to 7 p.m. July 27 at the Lower Burrell VFW. Please bring a driver’s license or state ID with one of the following documents: DD-214, Military ID – active or retired, VA card or VFW Lifetime Card.

Storytime in the Park to continue online

Trinity United Methodist Church, Brackenridge, will offer storytimes for children Wednesdays in July via Facebook.

A bagged lunch and craft project for parents and children will be available for pickup from 11 a.m. to noon in the church parking lot, 847 10th Ave., or can be delivered to Natrona, Natrona Heights, Brackenridge and Tarentum addresses.

Registration for each week’s event is required by Monday of that week. To register, go to the church Facebook page , click “going” on the event page then post a comment saying how many lunches are needed and whether they will be picked up or need to be delivered.

Concordia Ministries to hold Kids’ Fishing Days

Concordia Lutheran Ministries will host Kids’ Fishing Days for children 14 and younger at Saxony Farm Estates, Addy Boy Lane, Winfield.

Scheduled for July 25 and Aug. 1, the events were planned to replace the annual Fishing Derby for Kids. Sessions will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

Free refreshments and bait will be available. A limited number of fishing poles will be on hand, so participants are encouraged to bring their own. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. Rather than measuring fish and awarding prizes, door prizes will be announced every half hour.

Registration is required. Sessions will be limited to 100 total guests to allow for social distancing. Please limit the number of adults in your party to allow for more children to fish.

Children’s summer feeding program continues in Tarentum

The Summer Feeding Program at Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St., Tarentum, provides free grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches to children from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. weekdays.

Penn State Extension offers webinar on cooking for crowds

“Cooking for Crowds,” a three-hour webinar will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon July 29 online.

The program is geared to volunteers preparing food for events such as church fund raisers, fire company barbecues, booster club food sales and the many other types of events where food is served to the public.

July 31: Valley Points Family YMCA is sponsoring a Christmas in July raffle for complete one roll each of $20, $10 and $5 scratch-off tickets. Cost: $10 per chance. The winning number will be taken from the July 31 evening Pa. Pick-3 Lottery. Proceeds will benefit the YMCA Financial Assistance Program. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold.
