Community choir to present outdoor concert

A free concert featuring the Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Community Choir will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Carl J. Magnetta Jr. Amphitheater in Tarentum’s Riverview Memorial Park, First Avenue.

The choir is made up of singers from local congregations and is directed by Roberta Breninghouse. Donations will be accepted to support the programs of the Allegheny Valley Association of Churches.


The Family Stone to perform at Hartwood Acres

The free 2025 Allegheny County Summer Concert series will feature The Family Stone band at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater, 4070 Middle Road, Hampton.

Bring a chair. Popup tents and umbrellas are permitted but must be taken down before the performance begins. Dogs are permitted but must be on a leash at all times and be up to date on all vaccinations and licensing.

Apollo/East Vandergrift

Aug. 13: Our Lady, Queen of Peace and St. James parishes are accepting reservations for a bus trip to Rivers Casino, Pittsburgh. Cost: $30, includes $20 in free play. The bus will leave at 9 a.m. from St. James Church parking lot in Apollo. State-issued photo ID required for free play. Reservations: 724-478-4958.

East Deer

Sunday: The Alle-Kiski Valley Historical Society’s Flea-Tique antique and collectible show will be open from daybreak to 1 p.m. at the Bull Creek Tour-Ed Mine site, off Bull Creek Road., rain or shine. Sports drinks will be collected for local fire departments. No pets permitted. Customer parking: $3 per vehicle. Proceeds benefit the Alle-Kiski Heritage and Tour Ed Mine museums. Harrison  

Today: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50-50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Saturday: Allegheny County Park Rangers will host a free open house and display about insects from noon to 2 p.m. at the Harrison Hills Park Environmental Learning Center. Drop in any time. The program is wheelchair accessible. Reservations required. Reservations: tinyurl.com/3mp9xu54.

Sunday: The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary will sponsor a Hogs and Rods vehicle cruise fundraiser from noon to 5 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Drive. The Cool Change band will play, cookout food will be sold and there will be a cash bar and 50-50.

Sunday/Wednesday: The Pittsburgh-Tarentum Campmeeting Association will have a worship service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the campground, 1451 Main St., Natrona Heights. The Rev. Bill Haley of Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church will be the speaker. Elder Ron Herr of Faith Community Church will preside at a service at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Public welcome.

Leechburg   

Saturday: The Clothing Closet at First Lutheran Church, 358 Main St., will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. All items are 20 cents each. Please bring a bag. Donations welcome.

Lower Burrell

Saturday: A luncheon bingo will be at 1 p.m. at the Moose, 499 Reimer St. Doors open at 11 a.m. Plan to arrive by 12:15 p.m. Admission: $20, includes lunch, 15 games that win $20 each; four specials that win $30 each; and a $100 must-go jackpot. Details: 724-335-4131.

Today: Knead Community Café will host a free outdoor summer movie night in the cafe courtyard, 1011 Barnes St. The featured film will be, “The Garfield Movie.” The Fifth Avenue gate will open at 7:15 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the event will be in the banquet hall.

Saturday: A celebration to benefit the Cody Allen Trim Memorial Scholarship will be from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Eagles, 2134 Freeport Road. There will be a corn hole tournament, a silent auction, an all-day 50-50 and music. Food and drinks will be available. Winners of this year’s scholarships will attend. Sunday: Frankie’s Friends Cat Rescue will host a vaccine clinic for cats and dogs from noon to 2 p.m. at the rescue, 730 Fifth Ave. Vaccines available include rabies for dogs and cats, feline and canine distemper, and feline leukemia, all for $15 each. West Deer

July 26: Join Allegheny County Park Rangers for a day of habitat restoration from 9 a.m. to noon at Deer Lakes Park. Meet at 9 a.m. at the Veterans I shelter. Volunteers will use hand tools to remove invasive species and may plant native species. Expect to participate in physical activity. No experience is necessary.
