Oakmont Chamber of Commerce accepting orders for military banners

The Oakmont Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Military Hometown Heroes Banner program to allow borough residents the opportunity to honor family members who are actively serving or did serve in the military.

Banners are 18 x 36-inches, double sided vinyl and include the service person’s name, branch of service, era of service and photo. Cost is $175. Application deadline is Aug. 7.

Library local history department now open by appointment

The Local History department at Community Library of Allegheny Valley in Harrison now offers appointments to access library resources.

Appointments are available from noon to 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Access will be available to all local history resources including a computer, the microfilm reader and personal research assistance.

There is a limit of one hour per person daily. For an appointment, call 724-226-3491.


Free drive-in movies planned in Allegheny County

The Allegheny County Family Drive-In Movie series will feature free drive-in movies each week at Boyce Park in Plum and Hartwood Acres Park in Indiana Township.

Movies will be at sundown Tuesdays in Boyce Park and Saturdays in Hartwood Acres Park.

This week’s movie will be, “Frozen 2,” rated PG.


Elks golf outing to benefit Home Service program

The 25st annual Tarentum Elks Golf Outing to benefit the Home Service Program will be Sept. 12 at the Apollo Elks Country Club Golf Course, Kiski Township.

The event is a four-man scramble. Shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. Cost is $75 per player; $300 per team.

July 31: Valley Points Family YMCA is sponsoring a Christmas in July raffle for complete one roll each of $20, $10 and $5 scratch-off tickets. Cost: $10 per chance. The winning number will be taken from the July 31 evening Pa. Pick-3 Lottery. Proceeds will benefit the YMCA Financial Assistance Program. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold. Apollo 

Apollo Area Historical Society Museum has reopened. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays. The current display features vintage toys.

Cheswick

Aug. 2: The Trolleys of Western Pennsylvania program planned by the Apollo Area Historical Society is canceled and will be rescheduled in 2021.

Butler

Aug. 28: The Butler High School Class of 1970 reunion is canceled and rescheduled to be the weekend of Aug. 28, 2121 at Butler Country Club. There are plans for a neighborhood night and golf outing.

Ford City

Aug. 29: The Armstrong County Labor Day Parade and Ethnic Feastival are canceled.

Freeport

September: The annual September By the River festival is canceled.

October: The Freeport Halloween carnival is canceled. 

Harrison

Aug. 22: The Wine and Food Festival planned at Burtner House is canceled. No decision on the Harvest Festival has been made yet.
