Free lunch programs continue in the A-K Valley

There are several free USDA children’s lunch programs locally this summer. They include:

Harrison: The Building Block of Natrona, sponsored by the United Methodist Church Union, 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. through July 29 at Natrona Community Park. Children do not have to live in Allegheny County. Reservations are encouraged to allow for ordering enough meals but are not required. For reservations, text 724-257-1117 with the number of children attending.

Leechburg: Leechburg Area School District, 11 a.m. to noon weekdays through Aug. 11 for district children in the school cafeteria. Sponsored by Metz Culinary Management and the school district.

Tarentum: Central Presbyterian Church, weekdays through Aug. 12 at the church, 305 Allegheny St. Breakfast will be served from 9 to 10 a.m. and lunch from noon to 1 p.m. Activities will be offered between meals. No reservations are required.


Animal Protectors accepting donations for its pet pantry

Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley, New Kensington, needs supplies for its community pet pantry.

Items needed most include adult dog food, wet and dry cat and kitten food, blankets for cats and cat litter. Bring items to the back door of the shelter at 730 Church St. and ring the doorbell.

July 12: The Teen Book Club at Apollo Memorial Library will meet at 5 p.m. at the library, 219 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Students age 13 to 18 welcome. Bethel

East Vandergrift 

Sunday: Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, 411 McKinley Ave., will have an outdoor Mass at 11 a.m. on the church lawn. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on. There is limited shade in the area, so bring a sun umbrella or wear a hat or sunscreen. Ice cream sandwiches will be served afterward. In case of rain, the event will be in the church.

July 3 and 4: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish is selling raffle tickets to win $1,000 cash and a $200 gift certificate to Naser Foods. Cost: $10 per ticket that has two numbers. Winning numbers will be the first officially drawn 7 p.m. Pa. Lottery Daily Pick-3 number on July 3 and 4. Each day’s winner will receive the cash and a gift certificate. Ford City

July 16: Tickets are on sale for the Ford City Community Kennywood picnic at Klingensmith Drug Stores in Ford City, Kittanning and West Kittanning. Cost: $28 for a FunDay Pass. Passes can also be used weekdays through Aug. 19. An extra $10 fee will be charged to use the tickets on weekends through Aug 19. Bus tickets for the day of the picnic are also available for $8. Freeport

Harrison  

July 31: A purse bash to benefit Robin’s Home charity that provides help to low income women veterans and their children will be at Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 11 a.m., lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. and bingo begins at 1 p.m. Cost: $35 in advance; $40 at the door; includes lunch. There will be a cash bar, pull tab tickets, a silent auction, pick of the table and raffles. Tickets: 724-904-7649.

Kiski Township

Sunday: Kiski Township Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at the firehall, 1037 Route 56. Menu: scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, home fries, hash browns, French toast, waffles, biscuits and gravy, coffee and juice. Cost: $11; age 4 to 12, $6.50; 2 and 3, $2; younger than 2, free.

Kittanning

July 10: Team registrations are being accepted for the Shawn DesLauriers Bocce Tournament set for noon at the Marconi Club, River Avenue. Team fee: $300. New Kensington

July 17: Peoples Library is conducting a basket raffle to benefit the library. Oakmont

Parks

Tarentum

Upper Burrell
