Used paperback books needed for troops, veterans

The Last Word Book Store, Lower Burrell, and Central Presbyterian Church, Tarentum, will participate July 29 and 30 in Operation Paperback Book Drive, that collects gently-used paperback books and sends them to American troops overseas, and veterans and military families in the United States.

Books most requested include current affairs, adult fiction, horror, thrillers, true crime, biographies, military history, past war books, travel guides, American and world history, puzzle books, investing, finance, self-help, leadership, management, western fiction and science fiction. No romance books please. Monetary donations are also welcome to defray shipping costs.

Books can be taken to from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to The Last Word Book Store, 2909 Leechburg Road, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St., Tarentum.

Leechburg breakfast event to explore questions about faith

Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church, 271 Main St., Leechburg, will host, “Faith & Food!” a breakfast for anyone who has questions about faith at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Bring those questions you’ve always had about faith and scripture. The menu will include breakfast casserole, pancakes, fruit, juice and coffee. Donations will be accepted to cover the cost of the meal.

Food pantry available in Harrison

The Natrona Community Pantry is in Natrona Community Park, 12-20 River Road, Harrison.

Anyone in need is welcome to visit. Donations are welcome. Suggested items include canned fruit and vegetables, spices, salt and pepper, tuna, cake mix, powdered milk and tea bags.
