Fun and Freedom Youth Sports to host golf fundraiser

A golf scramble to benefit Fun and Freedom Youth Sports will be Aug. 19 at Hiland Golf Course, 106 St. Wendelin Road, Summit Township.

Check-in will be from 7 to 7:30 a.m. and the shotgun start will be at 8 a.m. Coffee and doughnuts will be served. Cost is $95 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch at the turn, an entry into the door prize drawing and dinner. There will be prizes for the first-, second- and third-place teams, skill prizes, a putting contest, silent auction and 50/50 raffle.

Hartwood Acres to host Indie pop concert

The Allegheny County Summer Concert Series at Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater, Indiana Township, will feature Fitz and the Tantrums with Rett Madison in concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Food trucks will open at 6 p.m. Rain or shine. A $20 per vehicle fee will benefit the Allegheny County Department of Human Services.


Rising Star Award nominations being accepted

YWCA Westmoreland and the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania Women’s Leadership Council are accepting nominations for their Rising Star Award. Nominees must be a Westmoreland County woman, 35 years old or younger who exhibits early professional success and potential to obtain marked achievement and demonstrates willingness to help others, especially women and girls.

The award includes a $2,500 professional development scholarship and a one-year mentorship with the United Way Women’s Leadership Council. Nomination deadline is July 31. For details and an application visit ywcawestmoreland.org.

Saturday: Apollo Events Committee and Apollo Memorial Library will host a free movie night to celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday in Owens Grove, 631 N. Second St. A party with pizza and cupcakes will be at 8 p.m. and the movie will begin at dusk. The featured film will be “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” rated PG-13. Free drinks and popcorn will be served. Bring a blanket or low chair.

Brackenridge
