Summer concert series to feature the Nied’s Hotel Band
The free Thunder Thursdays Summer Music Series will present the Nied’s Hotel Band in concert Thursday at the pavilion at the Syria Shrine Center, 1877 Shriners Way, Harmar.
Concerts start at 7 p.m., rain or shine. Gates open at 6 p.m. There is free parking and food and beverages will be sold. No tailgating or outside food or drinks are permitted.
The series is sponsored by Miller Lite, Band Together Pittsburgh, Moondog’s and the Pittsburgh Shrine Center and continues Thursdays through Oct. 9.
Local Civil War vets to be honored at Prospect Cemetery
Prospect Cemetery in Brackenridge will sponsor a remembrance of our Civil War veterans at 7 p.m. Thursday at the cemetery.
There are 269 Civil War veterans buried in the cemetery. Participants will include members of the Brackenridge American Legion, Brackenridge Mayor Lindsay Fraser, and Jess Baker, who is chief of staff for Pa. Rep. Mandy Steele.
Those attending should park in the Trinity United Methodist Church parking lot across Freeport Road and bring a chair. Civil War booklets of Prospect Cemetery will be sold for $20, with all proceeds benefiting the cemetery maintenance fund. Refreshments will be served afterward in the Alle-Kiski Heritage Museum, 224 E. Seventh Ave., Tarentum.
