Honeybee festival planned at Burtner House

Burtner House Restoration Society will host a Honeybee Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the homestead, 965 Burtner Road, Natrona Heights, Harrison.

There will be a youth baking contest at 11 a.m., a honey extracting demonstration at 2 p.m. and children’s activities, food, artisans and tours of the house.

Parking and shuttle service will be available from the dirt parking area at Citizens Hose Firehall, Freeport Road, Harrison. No parking is available at the festival.


Summer concert series to feature Curtis and the Shakerz

The free Pittsburgh Brewing Co. Thunder Summer Music Series will feature Curtis and the Shakerz Thursday at the pavilion at the Syria Shrine Center, 1877 Shriners Way, Harmar.

Concerts start at 7 p.m., rain or shine. Gates open at 6 p.m. There is free parking and food and beverages will be sold. No tailgating or outside food or drinks are permitted.

The series continues Thursdays through Oct. 12.

Allegheny Township

July 30: Markle Volunteer Fire Department is accepting space reservations for an outdoor flea market in the firehall parking lot, 470 Joyce St. Cost: $15 for a 15 x 25-foot space. Reservations required by Friday. Reservations: 724-236-0665.

Arnold

Tuesday: St. Vladimir Church, 1610 Kenneth Ave., will sponsor a bingo night. Doors open at 6 p.m. There is a $1,000 jackpot game with a $500 consolation prize. Snacks, drinks, daubers and extra packages will be sold. Admission: $25.

Buffalo Township

Tuesday: Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will host a drive-through food distribution for anyone in need from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway, 313 N. Pike Road. No reservations required. Guests should remain in their vehicles and open their door or trunk and will be served on a first come, first served basis.

Harrison

Tuesday: The free summer children’s playground program sponsored by Natrona Comes Together Association will present a Pittsburgh Children’s Museum program about robots at 12:30 p.m. at the park pavilion, 10 River Ave.

Lower Burrell  

Tuesday: Peoples Library will have a summer story time for all ages at 1 p.m. at the library, 3052 Wachter Ave. Details: 724-339-1021.

Tuesday: Peoples Library will offer an online talk with Erika L. Sanchez, author of “Crying in the Bathroom: A Memoir” at 4 p.m. Registration required. Registration: libraryc.org.peopleslibrary.

July 29: Church of God is accepting space reservations for its parking lot treasures sale set for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church parking lot, 273 Chester Drive. Rain date: Aug. 5. Reservations: 724-335-4422 or lbcog@hotmail.com.

New Kensington

Tuesday and Saturday: The Community Clothes Closet, 1129 Kenneth Ave., will be open from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Items available include clothing for all members of the family, shoes and linens. First-time customers receive 15 free items. Summer clothing donations welcome during business hours.

Oakmont

Vandergrift  

Tuesday: The YoYos Needle Arts group at Vandergrift Public Library will meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the library reading room, 128C Washington Ave. No reservations required; just stop in. All skill levels welcome; however, this is not an instructional program. Details: 724-568-2212.

Tuesday: A free story time will be at 11 a.m. in Franklin Avenue Park. Bring a blanket or chair. Sponsored by Vandergrift Public Library.

Thursday : Vandergrift Business Association will offer a free class about marketing and using social media to promote your business at 6:30 p.m. at Allusion Brewing, 143 Grant Ave., as part of its summer lecture series.

July 31: Vandergrift Public Library is raffling a quilt made and donated by library patron Jane Strohm to benefit the library. Cost: $1 for two tickets; 5 for 12; and $10 for 30.
