Casino Theatre seeking donations

The Casino Theater in Vandergrift is seeking donations to help with the upkeep and maintenance of the theater during the current pandemic.

Since mid-March six shows at the theater have been canceled, but the costs of maintenance and utility bills continue to come in. Revenue lost from these performances could top $25,000.

The theater is marking its 120th anniversary this year and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Donations can be sent to Casino Theatre Restoration and Management, 145 Lincoln Ave., PO Box 202, Vandergrift PA 15690. Contributions are fully tax deductible.


Free drive-in movies planned in Allegheny County parks

The Allegheny County Family Drive-In Movie series will feature free drive-in movies each week at Boyce Park in Plum and Hartwood Acres Park in Indiana Township.

Movies will be at sundown Tuesdays in Boyce Park and Saturdays in Hartwood Acres Park.

This week’s movie will be, “Onward,” rated PG.


Harrison Hills Park to offer program for children

Friends of Harrison Hills Park will offer a free program for children, “Junior Ranger: Stream Exploration,” from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at the park Environmental Learning Center, Natrona Heights.

The program is recommended for children age 5 to 12, but everyone is welcome. Shoes are required and children should dress to be able to get in the stream and get wet. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Adult coloring raffle to continue through Friday

Community Library of Allegheny Valley is sponsoring an adult coloring raffle through the end of July.

Pick up a coloring sheet at the library or print one online here. Return your finished coloring sheet to the library or post it onto the library Facebook page or email it to clavharrisonlibrary@gmail.com with your contact information. Deadline is Friday. The winner will receive an adult coloring art kit.

Allegheny Township/Harrison/New Kensington

July 31: Valley Points Family YMCA is sponsoring a Christmas in July raffle for complete one roll each of $20, $10 and $5 scratch-off tickets. Cost: $10 per chance. The winning number will be taken from the July 31 evening Pa. Pick-3 Lottery. Proceeds will benefit the YMCA Financial Assistance Program. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold. Brackenridge  

Aug. 1: Pioneer Hose Company will conduct the drawings for its gun bash live at noon on the company Facebook page. Winners will be notified. Tickets are still available. Tickets: send a message on the Facebook page.

New Kensington

Monday: The Community Clothes Closet, 1129 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays. There will be a buy-one, get-one-free sale until the end of summer. Face masks are required, and a maximum of 25 people can be in the store at one time. Donations welcome.

Saturday: St. John Orthodox Church, 150 Elmtree Road, is taking orders for a pierogi sale. Pick-up will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 1 at the church Slavic food festival. Butler

Aug. 28: The Butler High School Class of 1970 reunion is canceled and rescheduled to be the weekend of Aug. 28, 2121 at Butler Country Club. There are plans for a neighborhood night and golf outing.

Aug. 29: The Armstrong County Labor Day Parade and Ethnic Feastival are canceled.

Freeport

September: The annual September By the River festival is canceled.

October: The Freeport Halloween carnival is canceled.

Aug. 22: The Wine and Food Festival planned at Burtner House is canceled. No decision on the Harvest Festival has been made yet.  

Kiski Township

Aug. 6 to 8: The rummage sale planned at Spring Church Lutheran Church is canceled.

Leechburg

Sept. 19: The annual Pink Day festival is canceled.

Leechburg High School Class of 1960 Reunion planned for August is postponed until Aug. 7, 2021.

Oakmont

Sept. 12: Springdale Volunteer Fire Department has rescheduled the May Cash Bash to be Sept. 12. Current tickets will be honored in September and the Progressive 50/50 will be drawn.
