Tarentum church to collect used mobility aides
Central Presbyterian Church, Tarentum, is collecting mobility equipment to be donated to Global Links, a charity that works to redirect still-useful materials away from landfills to support public health programs in targeted communities throughout the Western Hemisphere.
Items in need include canes, raised toilet seats, shower chairs, IV poles, crutches, walkers, shower chairs and non-electric wheelchairs
Items can be brought through Aug. 31 to the church, 305 Allegheny St. For details, call the church at 724-224-9220 email centralpresoffice@verizon.net.
Allegheny County to place rabies vaccines
Allegheny County will place rabies vaccine baits beginning Friday across the county, especially in parks.
The baits will be delivered both by hand from ground vehicles and by helicopter. Hand baiting will be Friday through Aug. 10, and helicopter baiting will be from Aug. 10 through Aug. 17. Helicopters will fly in north-south transects that go over residential areas. As the transects are close together to ensure sufficient baiting, residents may see the helicopters moving slowly over the same area multiple times within a short period of time.
Residents should keep dogs on a leash and not allow them to eat the bait. Bait will not harm your dog but may cause an upset stomach and/or diarrhea if they eat too many. If bait must be moved, use a latex glove or plastic bag to touch it.
For details, call 877-722-6725 or 412-350-4046 or visit www.achd.net/raccoon/.
