Annual Elks golf tournament planned Sept. 12

The 25th annual Tarentum Elks Golf Outing to benefit the Home Service Program will be Sept. 12 at the Apollo Elks Country Club Golf Course, Kiski Township.

The event is a four-man scramble. Shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. Cost is $75 per player; $300 per team.

Freeport EMS conducting subscription campaign

Freeport Emergency Medical Services is conducting its annual subscription campaign for 2020. Letters were mailed to all residents, businesses and property owners within their service area.

Subscription fees are due before Sept. 1. If you did not receive a subscription form the mail and wish to donate, call 724-295-2300.


Silent auction, yard sale to help with medical bills and expenses

A silent auction and yard sale to benefit Dominique Kemp and her family will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday behind Sunnyside Dispensary, 751 Fourth Ave., New Kensington.

Kemp lost her 2-year-old son Cassius Saulsgiver July 20 in a drowning accident in Harrison.

Food and drinks, including pulled pork from Big Joes BBQ, will sold. Proceeds will help with medical bills and other expenses.


New upper Allegheny Valley parish announces worship schedule

The new Guardian Angels Parish has announced its Mass schedule.

Times and worship sites include:

• 5 p.m. Saturdays, Our Lady of Victory Church, 1319 Low Grade Road, Harwick, Springdale Township

• 9 a.m. Sundays, Holy Martyrs Church, 353 W. Ninth Ave., Tarentum

• 11 a.m. Sundays, Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 800 Montana Ave., Natrona Heights, Harrison.

• 11 a.m. Sundays, online only at Facebook Live from St. Alphonsus Church, Springdale. No seating will be available.

• Weekday Masses will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 11th and Carolina streets, Natrona Heights

Vandergrift Library updates operating hours

Vandergrift Public Library, 128C Washington Ave., has announced new operating hours for patrons.

Hours will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays.

Special hours for senior citizens by appointment only are 1 to 2 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays.

Free webinar planned with the Small Business Association

The Corner Launchbox in New Kensington will sponsor a free webinar, “An Hour with the SBA,” at 1 p.m. Aug. 6.

Karan Waigand, an economic development specialist with the Small Business Association will discuss the ways the SBA can help to strengthen and support the overall success of your business and answer questions.

Campmeeting Association plans service in Harrison

The Pittsburgh-Tarentum Campmeeting Association, 1451 Main St., Natrona Heights, Harrison, will have a service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the campground. The Rev. Jerry Pawloski, pastor of Bairdford United Methodist Church, West Deer, will be the speaker.

The Rev. Rich Crofutt, pastor of Reformed Presbyterian Church of Slate Lick, North Buffalo, will preach at a 7 p.m. Wednesday service.

The public is welcome.

Kiski Township

Saturday: The Community Clothes Closet, 1129 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A buy-one, get-one-free sale will be until the end of summer. Face masks are required, and a maximum of 25 people can be in the store at one time. Donations welcome.

Saturday: Mount St. Peter Church will conduct a Grand Raffle with prizes of $2,500, $500 and two of $250 after the 5 p.m. Mass. Cost: $1 each. Tickets: Stop in the church office, 100 Freeport Road.

North Apollo

Aug. 28: The Butler High School Class of 1970 reunion is canceled and rescheduled to be the weekend of Aug. 28, 2121 at Butler Country Club. There are plans for a neighborhood night and golf outing.

Ford City

Aug. 29: The Armstrong County Labor Day Parade and Ethnic Feastival are canceled.

Freeport

September: The annual September By the River festival is canceled.

October: The Freeport Halloween carnival is canceled. 

Harrison

Aug. 22: The Wine and Food Festival planned at Burtner House is canceled. No decision on the Harvest Festival has been made yet.  

Kiski Township

Aug. 6 to 8: The rummage sale planned at Spring Church Lutheran Church is canceled.

Leechburg

Sept. 19: The annual Pink Day festival is canceled.

Leechburg High School Class of 1960 Reunion planned for August is postponed until Aug. 7, 2021.

Oakmont

Parks Township

Oct. 3: The Cash Giveaway Bash sponsored by Upper Burrell and Parks volunteer fire companies is canceled.

Saxonburg

Sept. 12 and 13: The Saxonburg Festival of the Arts is canceled.

The weekly Mingle on Main events are canceled. Refunds will be sent to vendors who signed up.

South Buffalo

Aug. 8: The gun bash planned by South Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department has been changed to an online event at 6:30 p.m. on the department Facebook page. Some prizes are not available due to covid-19 restrictions. If your ticket number is called for the one of the prizes that is not available, you will receive cash in the amount of the department’s cost of the gun. All hourly prizes will remain the same. The 7 p.m. grand prize will be $2,000 and will also be drawn on Facebook. All winners will be contacted by telephone, and winning numbers posted on Facebook and on the firehall door. No refunds will be issued.

Springdale

Oct. 3: The Monte Carlo Night planned by Springdale High School Alumni Association is canceled. Association meetings are suspended until further notice.

Sept. 12: Springdale Volunteer Fire Department has canceled the Cash Bash. The 50/50 Progressive Raffle tickets dated May 9, 2020 will be drawn on Sept. 12. The fire company thanks everyone for their continued support during this trying time.

Sept. 13: The craft and vendor fair is canceled.

West Deer

West Deer Farmers Market is canceled.

Aug. 28: The West Deer Police Benefit Golf Scramble that was to be May 1 is rescheduled to be Aug. 28 at Pittsburgh North Golf Course, Richland Township. Cost: $85 per golfer. Registration form: click here.
