Leechburg VFD carnival to begin Monday

Leechburg Volunteer Fire Company will host its annual carnival at 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the firemen’s grounds, 268 Canal St.

Ride-all-night passes will be $18 and individual ride tickets will be sold.

The firemen’s kitchen will be open nightly and there will be regular bingo at 7 p.m. Monday, quarter bingo from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 50/50 raffles and grand prize drawings at the end of the week. Special raffles with multiple prizes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings live on Facebook.


Salvation Army to host annual back to school fair

The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army is accepting reservations for the annual Paul Field Memorial Back to School Bash scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Salvation Army center, 917 Brackenridge Ave., Brackenridge. There will be a DJ, free haircuts, vendors, food and games and children will receive a free bookbag and school supplies.

Children must live in the following zip code areas to attend: 15006, 15014, 15030, 15032, 15049, 15065, 15075, 15076, 15084 and 15238 and must attend the event to receive a backpack.

Reservations are required. For reservations, call 724-224-6310, ext. 1. No reservations will be accepted the day of the event.


PTO seeking donations of children’s hygiene products

Kiski Area East Primary School PTO is collecting children’s hygiene products to be given to students in need at the school in Vandergrift.

Products being collected are toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, brushes, combs, loofahs, lip balm, socks, small umbrellas and drawstring bags.

Donations can be dropped off Monday through Aug. 23 at Valley Points YMCA, 511 Hyde Park Road, Allegheny Township, and the Vandergrift Police Department.


Leechburg community picnic set Aug. 18 at Kennywood

The Leechburg Community Day will be Aug. 18 at Kennywood Park in West Mifflin.

Tickets are $40; 60 and older, $25; and 70 and older, $18, and are available at Leechburg Public Library, 139 Market St., and Nextier Bank, 160 Market St.

Monday: First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Leechburg, will host a 13-week GriefShare support group from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Sept. 6 in the church sanctuary, 358 Main St. The group is for anyone who has lost an important person in their life and needs help dealing with the grief. Sunday: A fundraiser to benefit Vandergrift Volunteer Fire Department No. 1 will be from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Allusion Brewery, 143 Grant Ave. A percentage of food sales will be donated to the fire company. Insurance agent Mary Jo Riddle will donate $5 through State Farm Insurance’s Quotes for Good program to the fire company for each auto quote received during August.

Aug. 31: Vandergrift Public Library is raffling a patriotic quilt made and donated by library patron Jane Strohm to benefit the library. Cost: $1 each or $5 for an arm’s length. The drawing will be Aug. 31. Tickets: stop in at the library, 128C Washington Ave. Details: 724-568-2212
