Pancreatic cancer research fund plans golf outing fundraiser

The 24th annual golf outing to benefit the Wayne Fusaro Pancreatic Research Fund will be Sept. 20 at River Forest Country Club, 130 Club House Drive, Allegheny Township.

Check-in will begin at noon and the shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. Cost is $150 per golfer and includes dinner. Tickets for dinner only are $35 and there will be skill prizes, a silent auction and 50-50.

School supply drive to continue through Aug. 6

Wesley Family Services in New Kensington is conducting its Wesley Wishes back-to-school supply drive through Aug. 6.

Items most needed include pens, highlighters, socks, tissue boxes, glue sticks, erasers, calculators, backpacks, colored pencils and crayons. Cash donations are also welcome.

Volunteers needed at Evergreen Cemetery

Evergreen Cemetery in Gilpin is seeking volunteers to sell and mark out plots, schedule materials for lot maintenance and assist with the operation of the cemetery.

Saturday: St. Mary Mother of God Church will sponsor a diaper pantry for those in need from 10 a.m. to noon on the lower level of the church Family Community Center, 407 Freeport Road. Harrison

Today and Friday: Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary will sell tickets for a back-to-school lottery basket raffle from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the hospital main lobby, 1301 Carlisle St. The winner will receive $100 in Pennsylvania Lottery scratch-off tickets and a backpack filled with $75 worth of school supplies. Cost: $2, cash or checks made payable to auxiliary accepted. The drawing will be at 3 p.m. Friday. Proceeds will benefit auxiliary projects for the hospital.

Saturday : A free guided hike with park rangers will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at Harrison Hills Park. Meet at the environmental learning center. Aug. 10: Allegheny County Park Rangers will present a free guided walk, “The Legacy of Mary Lawrence,” from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Hartwood Acres Mansion. Aug. 16: West Deer Parks and Recreation Board and the Pennsylvania Game Commission will offer a hunter-trapper safety course from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at West Deer No. 3 Volunteer Firehall, 4418 Gibsonia Road. This course and the passing of a certification exam at the end of the class is required for all first-time hunters and trappers before they can buy a license.
