Kennywood Slovak Day activities planned for July 20

The Western Pennsylvania Slovak Day Committee will present the 100th annual American Slovak Day July 20 at Kennywood Park, West Mifflin.

A centennial party with special guest Radovan Javorcik, Slovak Ambassador to the United States, will be from 2 to 3 p.m. on the Main Stage. Music will be by the Rusynsky Bet’are and there will be a birthday cake, dancing and a meet-and-greet with Javorcik. The Slovak kitchen will open at 12:30 p.m. in Pavilion No. 4 behind the Old Mill ride.

Mass will be concelebrated at 4 p.m. in the Main Pavilion by Bishop David A. Zubik of the Diocese of Pittsburgh and Bishop Larry Kulick of the Diocese of Greensburg. The Pittsburgh Slovakians and the Pittsburgh Area Slovak Folk Ensemble will perform afterward.

Vacation Bible schools

• New Kensington Salvation Army, “Knights of North Castle,” 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 24 to 28 at the center, 255 Third St., for children age 6 to 12. Cost: $15 per child, includes lunch each day and Friday field trip. Reservations required. Reservations: stop in at the center. Details: 724-335-7221.

• Guardian Angels Parish, “Cave Quest: Following Jesus the Light of the World,” 6 to 8 p.m. July 31 to Aug. 4 in the church Patterson Hall, 800 Montana Ave., Harrison, for children in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. East Vandergrift

Harrison 

Today: The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church, Harrison, will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights. Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles. First-time recipients must provide their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.

Monday: The free summer children’s playground program sponsored by Natrona Comes Together Association will present an arts and crafts program at 12:30 p.m. at the park pavilion, 10 River Ave.

Leechburg 

Today: The Veterans of Foreign Wars will feature Marshal and the Deputies from 8 to 11 p.m. at the post. Members and three guests welcome.

Today: The farmers market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bon Air Elementary School, 3260 Leechburg Road.

Monday: Leechburg Volunteer Fire Company will host bingo at 7 p.m. at the firehall, 268 Canal St. Doors open at 5 p.m. The kitchen will be open.

Lower Burrell 

July 15: Peoples Library will offer an online talk with Charles Soule, author of “The Endless Vessel” at 2 p.m. Registration required. Registration: libraryc.org.peopleslibrary.

Oct. 22: New Kensington Moose is accepting table reservations for a fall craft and vendor show planned for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the lodge, 499 Reimer St. Spaces limited to one representative from each company on a first come, first served basis. Springdale
