Book talk to discuss western Pennsylvania history

Author Kathy Myers will give a free presentation about her book, “Historic Tales of the Pennsylvania Wilds,” from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday on the lawn at the Armstrong County Historical Museum and Genealogical Society, 300 N. McKean St., Kittanning.

A native of Ridgway, Myers is a historian and genealogist. Free parking is available on Vine and McKean streets and behind the museum via the North Grant Street entrances. Bring a chair or blanket.


Free rock concert planned at Hartwood Acres

The Allegheny County Summer Concert Series at Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater, Indiana Township, will feature a free performance of progressive rock by the band Moe at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Food trucks will open at 6 p.m. Rain or shine.

Saturday: Pittsburgh Shrine Center will host a Night at the Races at 7 p.m. at the center, 1877 Shriners Way. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be at 6. There will be food, soft drinks, coffee, beer, small games of chance, a silent auction and 50/50 raffle. Admission: $20

East Vandergrift

Saturday and Sunday: A rummage sale will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and noon to 1 p.m. Sunday in the basement of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 420 McKinley Ave.

Harrison 

Today: The free summer children’s playground program sponsored by Natrona Comes Together Association will present a rocket program with the Carnegie Science Center at 12:30 p.m. at the Natrona pavilion, 10 River Ave. Funding for programs provided by PNC Charitable Trusts. Saturday: The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church, Harrison, will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights. Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles. First-time recipients must provide present their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.
