Leechburg Mingle on Market event feature music, farmer’s market

The first Mingle on Market event of the year in Leechburg will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday on Market Street.

Magic and the Hot Metal Brass will perform in the new band location on Second Street between Market Street and Diamond Alley. A farmer’s market will be from 6 to 9 p.m. in the municipal parking lot beside Fox’s Pizza on Market Street. Food trucks will open at 5 p.m.

The event is sponsored by Leechburg Area Community Association.


‘Super Mario Brothers Movie’ to be screened in Harrison

The free Movies in the Parks program sponsored by the Allegheny County Parks Department will present “The Super Mario Brothers Movie” rated PG at dusk Thursday in the Yakaon shelter of Harrison Hills Park, Freeport Road, Harrison.

Bring a chair or blanket, snacks and drinks.


Blessing Box outreach now available in Apollo

Grace Assembly of God, 609 First Street Extension, Apollo, has placed new Blessing Box community outreach outside the church to provide free food, personal hygiene products and essential supplies to the community.

Anyone is welcome to take items at any time. Community members can donate items by placing them inside the box. Canned goods, pasta, rice, boxed meals, soap, shampoo, toothpaste and feminine hygiene products are the items that are needed most.

There will be 14 regular games that pay $100; five specials, and a must-go $1,000 jackpot game; silent auction, small games of chance and a 50-50. Snacks, pop and water will be sold. June 21: The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek will host a free program about pollinators from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center, 142 Kerr Road. There will be tours of the Master Gardener Pollinator Garden, talks with beekeepers, arts and crafts and children’s activities. All ages welcome. Reservations required. Brackenridge

Wednesday: Al-Anon will meet at 8 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 847 10th Ave. The group offers help and hope for families and friends of alcoholics.

Thursday: The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center will distribute free grab-and-go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the center parking lot, 917 Brackenridge Ave. Free grocery items from Walmart and Aldi will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Freeport

Wednesdays: The Thrift Store Clothing Ministry at Freeport United Methodist Church, 211 Fourth St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All items are free, but donations will be accepted. Items available include clothing of all sizes, bedding and window items. Donations of clothing, shoes and boots welcome; must be laundered and free from smoke and pet hair. Wheelchair accessible. Gilpin

Thursday: Gilpin Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7:15 p.m. at the firehall, 113 Firehall Road.

Harrison

Today: Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host a Memory Makers memory board sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the hospital cafeteria, 1301 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights. Boards measure 8 x 12 inches and are created from a picture on your phone or a regular photo. Cost: $15. Cash, checks and credit cards accepted. Proceeds will benefit auxiliary projects for the hospital.

Wednesday: The Becky’s Closet community clothing store at Faith Lutheran Church, 1500 Broadview Blvd., will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Clothing for all members of the family available at very low cost. Donations welcome during these hours. Everyone welcome.

Wednesday: The Agape Thrift Shop at Grace United Methodist Church, 1333 Freeport Road, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Clean clothing in all sizes is needed. No housewares or bedding please due to lack of space. Bring donations on Wednesday or leave them on the front porch. Do not place donations in the blue bins behind the church.

Wednesday: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Food bank participants can receive food allotments twice per month. Those who are not yet registered should come from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Jefferson

Today: Concordia at Cabot sponsors a free monthly caregiver support group at 2 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month in the Lund Care Center private dining room, 134 Marwood Road. Use Entrance 4. Distributions will be the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Recipients must register in advance. Leechburg

July 11: A rubber ducky race fundraiser to benefit the borough’s 175th anniversary celebration next year will be at 5 p.m. on the Kiski River. Ducks will be dropped into the river from the walking bridge to Hyde Park and will be fished out at the finish line at the firemen’s boat launch. Prizes will be awarded. Cost: $5 per duck. Ducks are available at Leechburg Public Library, 139 Market St. Checks payable to Leechburg Area Community Association will be accepted.

Lower Burrell

Wednesday: Peoples Library will present “Shipwrecked” with Mad Science at 1 p.m. at the library, 3052 Wachter Ave. Those attending will imagine they are on a deserted island and work together to invent a means for collecting food and water, build shelters and bridges and design a boat to escape the island. Wednesday: Highlands Family Center, 415 E. Fourth Ave., will host a free farmers market from 1 to 5 p.m. at the center, while supplies last. No income guidelines required. Items available will include vegetables, fruit, milk, cheese, bread and more.
