Oakmont Carnegie Library to offer pickup appointments

Oakmont Carnegie Library, 700 Allegheny River Blvd., will begin to offer appointments beginning Monday for pick-up of library materials.

Requests can be called in from 10 to 2 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays to 412-828-9532. Leave a message if you call afterhours. Holds can also be placed on the library website.

Staff members will check for your requested item and call back to schedule a pickup appointment.

All books can be returned to the book drop.


Flea-tique season to begin June 21

The Alle-Kiski Valley Historical Society’s Flea-tique will begin the season from dawn to 1 p.m. June 21 at the Bull Creek Tour-Ed Mine site, off Bull Creek Road. Rain or shine.

The antique and collectable show will be the third Sunday of each month through Nov. 15. Cost for a 20 x 24 space is $30 per month, or $150 for the year, which reflects one free month. CDC requirements will be observed.

Space requests should be mailed to AKVHS, 224 E. Seventh Ave., Tarentum PA 15084. Proceeds benefit the AKVHS Heritage and Tour-Ed Mine museums.

Vandergrift Public Library to reopen with new hours

Vandergrift Public Library will reopen at 2 p.m. Tuesday with new operating hours and policies.

Hours will be 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays. Masks must be worn inside the library and patrons must observe social distancing. Computer time is limited to 30 minutes and there will be no public restroom available. No more than 25 patrons will be admitted inside the library at one time.

Food available at New Kensington Salvation Army

The Salvation Army in New Kensington is distributing food to residents through its pantry at 1101 Fifth Ave., New Kensington.

Anyone in need should ring the bell to the door by the parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and food will be given out safely. Appointments are encouraged.

Anyone who is quarantined, or a member of the at-risk population can have food delivered to their home.

Donations of non-perishable food can be taken to the pantry during the same hours. To make an appointment and for details, call 724-335-7221.


Prayer event set to begin Monday

A 40-day prayer walking event, “Pray Americas,” will be held Monday through July 25 nationwide.

People will meet in small groups to pray at various times and locations, in their own neighborhoods, cities and counties. Everyone is welcome to take part, regardless of church affiliation.

First Avenue in Tarentum to close Monday through Wednesday

First Avenue in Tarentum will be closed to traffic Monday through Wednesday from Corbet Street to Cherry Street in Brackenridge.

The detour and truck route will be Corbet Street to Sixth Avenue to Brackenridge.

Monday: Lower Burrell Council will meet at 7 p.m. partially by teleconference at city hall, 2800 Bethel St. Public participation through written comments is encouraged and preferred. Written comments should be sent via US Mail or emailed to colb@cityoflowerburrell.com by 4 p.m. Monday. The agenda is posted on the city website and at the municipal building. Physical presence by the public will be limited and subject to 6-foot physical distancing. Those attending must wear a face mask. Those without issues requiring immediate attention are asked to refrain from physically attending. The public will not be admitted beyond capacity. New Kensington
