Free GED prep class offered in Harrison and online

Allegheny Family Network North in Natrona Heights, Harrison, offers a free adult education program for adults who want to work toward obtaining their high school diploma.

The GED prep class is available from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the center and online via Zoom. Childcare is available on-site. Transportation is available via the AFN North shuttle from Tarentum to Natrona Heights before and after class.

The program provides instruction from a certified teacher and covers the costs of tests for students. Peer support for future post-graduation plans is also offered.

Free movie offered at Hartwood Acres

The free Allegheny County Movies in the Parks series at Hartwood Acres Amphitheater, Indiana Township, will feature the movie, “The Jungle Book” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The movie is rated PG.

Gates open at 7 p.m. and the movie starts at dusk. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair.


Community Library accepting used books, CDs

Community Library of Allegheny Valley in Harrison is accepting donations for its June 26 book sale.

Adult fiction and non-fiction, biographies, children’s and young adult books, DVDs and CDs can be taken to the library, 1522 Broadview Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Items must be in good condition.

Free grab and go lunch offered Wednesday at Allegheny Valley Church of God

Allegheny Valley Church of God, 216 Catalpa St., New Kensington, will serve free grab and go lunches at noon Wednesday.
