Tennis tournament to benefit Ewing sarcoma research

The annual Kaelyn Rose Charity Tennis Tournament will be June 25 at the Valley High School tennis courts, New Kensington.

Check-in will be at 8:30 a.m. This is an open-age, round-robin event for players in high school and older and will feature singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Players may dual register.

Entry fee is $20 per player; $10 to register the same player in both singles and doubles. Prizes will be awarded. Proceeds will be donated for research on Ewing Sarcoma. For details and registration, call or text Jaren Thimons at 724-759-0407 or thimonsjd@washjeff.edu by Tuesday.


Strawberry Festival planned Saturday at Burtner House

The 47th annual Burtner House Strawberry Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Burtner House homestead, 965 Burtner Road, Natrona Heights, Harrison.

There will be Civil War reenactors, crafters, demonstrations, food, a bake sale and basket raffle. Parking and shuttle service will be available from the dirt parking area at Citizens Hose Firehall, Freeport Road, Harrison. No parking is available at the festival.

Admission is $10; students and senior citizens, $5; younger than 6, free. Proceeds benefit Burtner House Restoration Society.


Church collecting summer items for outreach program

Springdale Open Bible Church is accepting donations for its June blessing box program.

Items needed include sunscreen, sunglasses, beach and pool toys, towels, swim diapers and flip flops. Donations can be dropped off at 401 Colfax St., Springdale.


TryLife Center to sponsor Walking for Babies fundraiser

The annual Walking for Babies event that benefits the TryLife Center in Lower Burrell will begin at 8:15 a.m. June 24 at Northmoreland Park, Allegheny Township.

Participants will gather sponsors and a virtual option is available. Check-in and a free breakfast will be at 7:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded at 10:15 a.m. to the top five fundraisers. There will be free children’s activities all morning. Registration fee is $25; $15 for additional adults when initially registering as a family or group; younger than 18, free.
