Backyard habitat program helps birds, wildlife

Many people than ever before are staying at home and enjoying gardening and yardwork .

The Backyard Habitat Certification program offered by the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania provides resources on how to make your yard or patio into a mini nature reserve that will provide important habitat and food sources for birds, pollinators, and wildlife.

Salvation Army resumes free lunch program

The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center will offer free grab and go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays in parking lot at the center, 917 Brackenridge Ave.


Help available from HOPE Center hotline

If social distancing has forced you into an unsafe situation, help is available by calling the Alle-Kiski HOPE Center 24-hour hotline at 724-224-1266.

The hotline provides information about domestic violence, community resources, safety planning, support and more.


Vandergrift Library announces summer reading program

The free summer reading program at Vandergrift Public Library will run July 1 to 31 and will be online this year.

The theme will be, “Imagine Your Story,” and encourages the reading of fairy tales, fantasies and myths. The program is for babies, children, teens and adults.

June 24: Fawn Supervisors will conduct a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. and the regular meeting afterward at the municipal building, 3054 Howes Run Road. West Deer
