Annual night race scheduled July 19 in Apollo

Roaring Run Watershed Association will sponsor its annual 5K night race/walk, “Race to the Moon,” at 9 p.m. July 19 at the trail along the Kiski River.

Parking is at 310 Clifford Ave in Apollo. Everyone is bused to the trail and a baggage claim is at the trail start/finish line. Check-in will begin at 7:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded afterward.

Cost is $25, plus a $2.75 fee in advance and $30 on race day; and includes a race day T-shirt for those who register by June 24. Registration deadline is July 17.

Free open door luncheon set in New Kensington

Allegheny Valley Church of God, 216 Catalpa St., New Kensington, will serve free lunches at noon Wednesday.

Wednesdays: The Blessing Closet at Freeport United Methodist Church, 211 Fourth St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All items are free, but donations will be accepted. Items available include clothing of all sizes, bedding and window items. Donations of clothing, shoes and boots welcome; must be laundered and free from smoke and pet hair. Wheelchair accessible. June 26: Join Allegheny County Park Rangers for a day of habitat restoration at Deer Lakes Park. Meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Veterans I shelter. Volunteers will use hand tools to remove invasive species and may plant native species. Expect to participate in physical activity. No experience is necessary.
