Apollo Memorial Library reopened for porch side pickup

Apollo Memorial Library has reopened today for porch side pickup.

Porch side pickup hours are by appointment and will be 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Reference hours will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Residents can place materials on hold through the online catalog at the library website, by calling 724-478-4214 or emailing apollo@armstronglibraries.org. Please leave a detailed message of the item requested and your full name.


Online popcorn fundraiser to benefit Animal Protectors

Popped Envy Popcorn is sponsoring a fundraiser to benefit Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley in New Kensington.

To place an order, visit www.poppedenvy.com and place an order using the check out code ANIMAL. Your order will be mailed directly to you. There is a $5 flat rate delivery fee.

Popped Envy Popcorn, located in Sarver, will donate 25 percent of the cost of each order to Animal Protectors. All products are wheat, egg, peanut and tree-nut free.

Order deadline is Friday.


Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament School to host tours

Tours of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament School in Natrona Heights, Harrison, will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Friday at the school, 800 Montana Ave.

An evening open house will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Social distancing will be observed. Families who attend will be eligible to win a gift card.

Hydrant flushing to begin in Tarentum

Tarentum Borough will conduct hydrant flushing this week and the week of June 8.

Flushing will be done through Friday in the east side of the borough. The west side of town will be done the week of June 8.

Customers may experience service interruptions or low pressure and should test water before doing laundry or drawing large quantities of water because it may be discolored. Run your cold water briefly to clear the line.


Penn State Extension offers free webinar about mental wellness

Penn State Extension will offer free webinar, “Mental Wellness During Covid-19: Grief, Loss and Covid-19” from 11:30 a.m. to noon or 6:30 to 7 p.m. June 9.

Today and Friday: The annual spring cleanup days have been rescheduled to be Tuesday and Friday. Plum

Plum Community Center is closed and all events canceled. Meals on Wheels will continue as scheduled. Those over 60 who are food insecure or rely on the daily lunch can continue to pick up Congregant Lunch provided by the county on a take-out basis only. Pick-ups will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Lunches must be ordered a day in advance by calling 412-795-2330.

Oakmont

Saxonburg

Sept. 12 and 13: The Saxonburg Festival of the Arts is canceled.

Springdale

The annual Springdale Jubilee, parade and fireworks are canceled.

Springdale High School Alumni Association meetings are suspended until further notice. The Monte Carlo night planned for April 25 has been rescheduled to Oct. 3.

Sept. 12: Springdale Volunteer Fire Department has rescheduled the May Cash Bash to be Sept. 12. Current tickets will be honored in September and the Progressive 50/50 will be drawn. Please hold on to your tickets. The fire department thanks you for your understanding and support and urges everyone to stay safe.

Tarentum

July 3: The Summit Hose Independence Day fireworks are canceled.

BridgePoint Church: Activities at the church, including the grief support group, and the children’s food and fun event are canceled. A live stream of the Sunday church service will be on Facebook Live.

Veterans of Foreign Wars is closed and there will be no Friday night bar bingo.
