Dogs and their owners welcome to enjoy night out
Dog Days of Summer, a free evening of fun and games for dogs and their owners, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, weather permitting, at the new off-leash dog area off Sportsman Park Drive in Harrison Hills Park, Freeport Road, Harrison.
Sponsored by the Allegheny County Department of Parks and Recreation, there will be activities and giveaways.
Firemen’s carnival begins Tuesday in Vandergrift
The Vandergrift Volunteer Firemen’s Carnival will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday in Kennedy Park.
There will be food, games and rides. A ride-all-night wrist band will be $20. There will be a Battle of the Barrel competition at noon June 10 on Jackson Avenue near the park, rain or shine.
Summer concert series to feature Norman Nardini
The free Thunder Thursdays Summer Music Series will feature Norman Nardini Thursday at the pavilion at the Syria Shrine Center, 1877 Shriners Way, Harmar.
Concerts start at 7 p.m., rain or shine. Gates open at 6 p.m. There is free parking and food and beverages will be sold. No tailgating outside food or drinks are permitted.
The series continues Thursdays through Oct. 10.

June 12: St. James and Our Lady, Queen of Peace parishes will sponsor a bus trip to Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh. The bus will leave at 9 a.m. from the St. James parking lot, 109 Owens View Drive. Friday : The Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania will sponsor a free community walk Freeport Community Park. The event will begin at 9 a.m. and will last one hour, rain or shine. Meet in the parking lot of Laube Hall. A naturalist will lead the group and will discuss birds, beneficial insects, native plants and wildlife. Binoculars will be available. Reservations required. Through June 30: The works of members of the Allegheny Valley League of Artists will be on exhibit during operating hours at Peoples Library, 3052 Wachter Ave. Artists include Don and Debra Pendergast, Chris Reifenstein and Patti Giordano.

Tuesday and Saturday: The Community Clothes Closet, 1129 Kenneth Ave., will be open from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Items available include clothing for all members of the family, shoes and linens. First-time customers receive 15 free items. Donations welcome during business hours.
Oakmont
