Christopher’s Light children’s charity accepting donations

Due to the increasing number of families experiencing unemployment, Christopher’s Light is seeking donations to purchase personal hygiene products, clothing and birthday gifts for the children it serves in Armstrong, Westmoreland and Indiana counties.

Checks made out to Christopher’s Light can be sent to P.O. Box 94, Apollo PA 15613.

Anyone who can donate their time to deliver clothes and basic need items to families in need or work at the Saltsburg building to sort and prepare items should send a message at the group’s Facebook page. Facebook.com/christopherslightnonprofit/

South Butler Community Library opens Library Express Window

South Butler Community Library, 240 W. Main St., Saxonburg, is offering no contact pick up of library materials at its new Library Express Window.

After patrons call to place a hold on items, library staff will call and schedule a pick-up appointment. Appointments are available in the mornings, afternoons and evenings.

Other services available include copies, faxes and dog licenses. Call and leave a message and staff will call you back to make an appointment.

Anyone who needs a file printed should email the file to director@southbutlerlibrary.org and the staff will call to schedule a pick-up time. For questions, email director@southbutlerlibrary.org.

The library book drop is now open for return of library materials.


Penn State Extension offers free webinar

“Victory Kitchen Series: Leafy Green Vegetables,” will be offered online from noon to 1 p.m. June 30 by the Penn State Extension.

The webinar will provide information about the world of leafy green vegetables and how to include them in your eating plan.

UPMC East offers seminar about pre-op testing and surgery

A free live online seminar, “Getting Ready for Surgery During Covid-19,” will be presented at 10 a.m. Thursday by UPMC East, Monroeville.

Dr. Marc Cordero will explain why you can be confident scheduling important cancer screenings, surgeries and other preventative care.

New Kensington

Saturday: Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley will have a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the center, 750 Church St. Rain or shine.

Saturday and Monday: The Community Clothes Closet, 1129 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays. Face masks are required, and a maximum of 25 people can be in the store at one time. Donations are not being accepted at this time.

Today: Barbeque dinners will be sold from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at King’s Deliverance Holiness Church, 1007 Custer St., North Vandergrift. Leechburg High School Class of 1953 Reunion planned in June is canceled.

Leechburg High School Class of 1960 Reunion planned for August is postponed until Aug. 7, 2021.

Oakmont

Sept. 12 and 13: The Saxonburg Festival of the Arts is canceled.

The weekly Mingle on Main events are canceled. Refunds will be sent to vendors who signed up.

Springdale

The annual Springdale Jubilee, parade and fireworks are canceled.

Springdale High School Alumni Association meetings are suspended until further notice. The Monte Carlo night planned for April 25 has been rescheduled to Oct. 3.

Sept. 12: Springdale Volunteer Fire Department has rescheduled the May Cash Bash to be Sept. 12. Current tickets will be honored in September and the Progressive 50/50 will be drawn. Please hold on to your tickets. The fire department thanks you for your understanding and support and urges everyone to stay safe.

Sept. 13: The craft and vendor fair is canceled.

Tarentum

July 3: The Summit Hose Independence Day fireworks are canceled.

West Deer

West Deer Farmers Market is canceled this year.
