Saxonburg to welcome annual firemen’s carnival

Saxonburg Firemen’s Carnival will be Tuesday through Saturday at the fireman’s grounds.

Gates open at 6 p.m. nightly. There will be carnival rides, food and games. Due to the great response from sponsors, there will be no admission fee.

A blessing of pets will be at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of Saxonburg Memorial Church and a pet parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Main Street. A fireman’s parade will be Thursday. For more information, visit svfc.com.


Shoe collection to continue through July 1

First Presbyterian Church of Avonmore, 518 Indiana Ave., is collecting gently used and new shoes through July 1 for the Latrobe Area Hospital Aid Society.

Collected shoes are used to support micro-enterprise vendors in developing nations. Pairs of shoes should be tied together with the laces or rubber bands and placed into a garbage bag. Do not bring shoes in boxes.

New Kensington Storywalk to feature children’s book

Peoples Library and Allegheny County Library Association Youth Services are sponsoring a Storywalk through July 3 in New Kensington’s Memorial Park.

The Storywalk will feature the book, “Last Stop on Market Street,” by Matt de la Peña and will be open during regular park hours.

Today and Sunday: Kiski Area Band will sponsor a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the high school gymnasium, 240 Hyde Park Road. Baked goods, snacks and lemonade will be sold.

Apollo

Today: A free movie will be screened at dusk in Owens Grove Park. Bring a chair or blanket. The featured film will be, “The Lorax.” Free snacks and drinks will be served.

July 4: St. James Parish is selling tickets for a Fire Quacker July 4 lottery ticket raffle. The winner will receive a complete roll of $5, $10 and $20 Pennsylvania Lottery scratch-off tickets. East Vandergrift

Vandergrift

June 26: Join Allegheny County Park Rangers for a day of habitat restoration at Deer Lakes Park. Meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Veterans I shelter. Volunteers will use hand tools to remove invasive species and may plant native species. Expect to participate in physical activity. No experience is necessary.
