Annual sawdust carpet celebration planned in Tarentum

Guardian Angels Parish will host a Corpus Christi Sawdust Carpet celebration from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 19 in the parking lot of Holy Martyrs Church, 353 W. Ninth Ave., Tarentum.

The public is welcome to watch the carpets being made with dyed sawdust and a closing prayer service with a procession with the Blessed Sacrament will be at 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served afterward in the social hall.

Anyone interested in making a carpet should call the parish at 724-226-4900.


Volunteer opportunities available with Family Hospice

Family Hospice, Part of UMPC, serves patients and families at end of life in Allegheny, Butler and Westmoreland counties and is recruiting local volunteers.

Opportunities include patient companion, caregiver respite, bereavement support and special events. Visits would be once per week for one to four hours. Volunteers are required to receive tuberculosis testing and a flu vaccine, and complete paperwork and training .

Salvation Army accepting summer camp reservations

Reservations are still being accepted for summer camps at the Salvation Army Camp Allegheny in Ellwood City.

Cost is $25 per child per session and includes transportation. Sessions available include sports camp July 11 to 15 for age 6 to 12; and Indiana Jones Adventure camp July 18 to 22 for ages 6 to 12.

Monday: The free summer children’s playground program sponsored by Natrona Comes Together Association will present a crafts program to make Shrinkies at 12:30 p.m. at the park pavilion.

Monday through Friday: Building Block of Natrona will provide lunches for children from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Natrona Community Park. Children do not have to live in Allegheny County.
