Firemen’s carnival begins Tuesday in Vandergrift
The Vandergrift Volunteer Firemen’s Carnival will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday in Kennedy Park.
A Battle of the Barrel competition and touch-a-truck will be at noon June 10 at the park, rain or shine. There will be food, games and rides.
Free fishing derby for kids slated in Burrell Lake Park
Burrell Lake Park Kids’ free fishing derby for kids ages 15 and younger will be Saturday at the park.
Registration with parent or guardian will be from 7:30 to 9 a.m.; fishing from 9 to 11 a.m.; and presentation of prizes is from 11:30 a.m. to noon. All participants receive a prize grab bag and free lunch. Prizes include rods and reels, tackle boxes and fishing lures for the longest fish caught in each category.
A limited number of loaner fishing rods and night crawlers will be available on a first-come basis. Bring your own fishing bait or lures. Helpers will be on hand to assist the kids and measure the fish. Catch and release fishing only. For more information, call 412-298-0964 or email tctcnews@gmail.com.

Summer concert series to feature Shot O’Soul
The free Pittsburgh Brewing Co. Thunder Summer Music Series will feature the band Shot O’Soul Thursday at the pavilion at the Syria Shrine Center, 1877 Shriners Way, Harmar.
Concerts start at 7 p.m., rain or shine. Gates open at 6 p.m. There is free parking and food and beverages will be sold. No tailgating or outside food or drinks are permitted.
The series continues Thursdays through Oct. 12.

Tuesday: St. Vladimir Church, 1610 Kenneth Ave., will sponsor a bingo night. Doors open at 6 p.m. There is a $1,000 jackpot game with a $500 consolation prize. Pierogi, snacks, drinks, daubers and extra packages will be sold. Admission: $25.

Oct. 22: New Kensington Moose is accepting table reservations for a fall craft and vendor show planned for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the lodge, 499 Reimer St. Spaces limited to one representative from each company on a first come, first served basis.
