Free garden strolls planned in Harrison

Harrison Recreation Board will sponsor free strolls from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday through the gardens of eight township residents.

Maps of the participating gardens will be available at Community Library of Allegheny Valley, Harvest Moon Coffee, at the township municipal building and online the Facebook page of the recreation board.

Grief sessions offered for youngsters

Good Samaritan Hospice, a mission of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, will offer free bereavement care sessions for young people who have experienced the loss of a loved one from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Mondays June 9 and 23 and July 7 and 21 at its Middlesex Township office, 116 Browns Hill Road.

Choose any date. There will be a summer activity, light snacks and a time to relax. Spiritual and bereavement counselors will be available. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The program is Christian-based but children of all faiths and backgrounds are welcome.

Thursday: The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center in Brackenridge will hand out free grab-and-go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the center parking lot, 917 Brackenridge Ave. Free grocery items from Walmart and Aldi will be available. Everyone is welcome.

East Vandergrift   

Friday, Saturday and Sunday: A rummage sale will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 1 p.m. Sunday in the basement of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 420 McKinley Ave. There will be new items and monthly specials. Details: 724-478-4958.

June 13: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish is selling tickets for a spring cash lottery raffle. There will be two winners and each will receive $1,000 cash and a $100 gift certificate to Naser’s Foods in Apollo. The winning numbers will be the 1:30 and 7 p.m. June 13 Daily Pick 3 numbers. Today: The Blessing Closet at Freeport United Methodist Church, 211 Fourth St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All items are free, but donations will be accepted. Items available include clothing of all sizes, bedding and window items. Donations of clothing, shoes and boots welcome; must be laundered and free from smoke and pet hair. Wheelchair accessible. June 13: A car show will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at Christ the King Parish, 125 Park Lane, as part of the Leechburg 175th anniversary celebration. Check-in will begin at 3 p.m. There will be food, music and a 50-50. Legacy awards will be awarded based on historic Leechburg car dealerships. Cost: $10 in advance; $15, at the gate. Harmar

Thursday: The free Thunder Thursdays Summer Music Series will feature the Shiners at 7 p.m. the Syria Shrine Center, 1877 Shriners Way, rain or shine. Gates open at 6 p.m. There is free parking and food and beverages will be sold. No tailgating or outside food or drinks permitted. Sponsored by Miller Lite, Band Together Pittsburgh, Moondog’s and the Pittsburgh Shrine Center.

Harrison  

Today: The Agape Thrift Shop at Grace United Methodist Church, 1333 Freeport Road, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Clean clothing in all sizes is needed. No housewares or bedding please. Bring donations on Wednesday or leave them on the front porch. Do not place donations in the blue bins behind the church.

Today: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Food bank participants can receive food allotments twice per month. Those who are not yet registered should come from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Today: The Becky’s Closet community clothing store at Faith Lutheran Church, 1500 Broadview Blvd., will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
