Apollo area Poppy Day will be held Friday
Kiski Township American Legion Poppy Day will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday in Apollo and North Apollo.
Locations include Naser Foods in West Apollo, Elderton Bank and Held’s Shop and Save, both in North Apollo; and Fox’s Pizza Den and BZ Mart, both in the Apollo Plaza. All proceeds are donated to the Veterans Affairs hospitals in Butler, Oakland and Pittsburgh. Help support the veterans.
Old and used American flags will be collected at Poppy Day and will be disposed of at a ceremony at 1 p.m. Saturday at the pavilion at Spring Church Lutheran Church, Route 56, Kiski Township.
Leechburg Museum selling memorial bricks
Leechburg Area Museum and Historical Society plans to construct a sidewalk at the museum in honor of longtime museum president and volunteer the late Nancy Crawford Nawrocki.
Bricks are being sold for $50 and contain three lines with 15 characters each that can be personalized with names of loved ones.

Firefly program planned at Outdoor Discovery Center
The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek, Bethel, will present a program about fireflies from 7 to 9 p.m. June 18 and 19 for children in elementary school at the center, Kerr Road, off Crooked Creek Dam Road.
Choose either session. Class sizes are limited. This is a free program, but donations are suggested. Reservations are required. For reservations; visit Armstrongcenter.org/odc-events.
The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek is a multi-use facility operated under the auspices of the Armstrong Center for Community Learning and is available year-round to organized groups and businesses for environmental education, workshops, meetings or retreats.
