Summer reading programs scheduled

Many Alle-Kiski Valley libraries are planning summer reading programs for all members of the family.

Community Library of Allegheny Valley, 1522 Broadview Blvd., Harrison. The theme will be, “Color Our World.” A kickoff celebration will be from 4 to 6 p.m. June 13 at the library and the program will end Aug. 2 with a finale at 5:30 p.m. Family fun Saturdays will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, A life-sized Candyland will be on display from 5 to 7 p.m. July 26 and there will be a family art event on July 30. Peoples Library will have Color Our World summer reading for all ages June 9 to Aug. 9 at both locations, 3052 Wachter Ave., Lower Burrell, and 880 Barnes St., New Kensington. Programs will be available in person and virtually Details: peopleslibrary.org.

• Springdale Free Public Library will host Color Our World summer reading camp July 14 to 18 at the library, 331 School St. There will be separate sessions for children 2 and younger, in prekindergarten and kindergarten, grades 1 through 3 and grades 4 to 6, all at 11 a.m. A free lunch will be offered each day. Summer concert series to present the Skyliners

The Skyliners will be featured at the free 2025 Summer Concert series Sunday at Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater, 4000 Middle Road, Hampton.

Gates open at 3 p.m. and performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. Food trucks will be on site beginning at 6 p.m.

Bring a folding chair. Popup tents and umbrellas are permitted but must be taken down before the performance begins. Dogs are permitted but must be on a leash at all times and be up to date on all vaccinations and licensing.

There will be no concert on June 15 due to the men’s U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club.


Free concert planned by Kiski Valley Community Band

The Kiski Valley Community Band will perform a free concert at 1:15 p.m. Sunday at the Leechburg Volunteer Firehall on First Street.

The event is part of the borough’s 175th anniversary celebration.

June 19: The Alle-Kiski Chapter of the American Wine Society will meet at 7 p.m. at River Forest Country Club, 130 Club House Drive. Avonmore

Sunday: A Blessing of the Animals service will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on the church lawn of First Presbyterian Church, 518 Indiana Ave. All animals are welcome - domestic, farm and exotic - and should be leashed or in an appropriate container. Light refreshments will be served. Donations of newspapers, pet food, toys and cash will be accepted for Action For Animals Humane Society of Latrobe.

East Vandergrift   

Today, Saturday and Sunday: A rummage sale will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and Saturday and noon to 1 p.m. Sunday in the basement of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 420 McKinley Ave. There will be new items and monthly specials. Details: 724-478-4958.

June 13: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish is selling tickets for a spring cash lottery raffle. Use the back door entrance. First-time recipients must provide their ID, the child’s birth certificate and their current WIC or SNAP card. Distributions are the first Saturday of each month. Gilpin   

June 13: A car show will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at Christ the King Parish, 125 Park Lane, as part of the Leechburg 175th anniversary celebration. Check-in will begin at 3 p.m. There will be food, music and a 50-50. Legacy awards will be awarded based on historic Leechburg car dealerships. Cost: $10 in advance; $15, at the gate. Harrison
