Leechburg Borough to celebrate 175 years

The Leechburg 175th celebration will begin Sunday and continue through June 14.

Highlights will include:

• An opening ceremony and ecumenical service at 12:30 p.m. Sunday on the grounds of Leechburg Volunteer Fire Company, 268 First St.

• A rubber ducky race at 5 p.m. Thursday starting at the Hyde Park Bridge.

• A catfish tournament from 7 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday on the Kiski River. A car show will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday on the grounds of Christ the King Church, 125 Park Road, Gilpin.

• A parade at 6 p.m. June 14 on Market Street followed by a drone show and closing ceremonies at 8 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Field, 147 Logan Ave.

Annual LB carnival coming to town

The Lower Burrell No. 1 Firemen’s Carnival will be Monday through June 14 at Hillcrest Shopping Center on Leechburg Road.

Hours are 6 to 10 p.m. daily. There will be rides, games and food. Single ride tickets and ride-all-night wrist bands will be available. The firemen’s food tent will offer haluski and other carnival favorites and will accept cash and credit cards. DJ Adrian will entertain on June 14.


Vacation Bible schools

• North Apollo Church of God, 507 20th St., 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 7 to 11 for children in preschool through sixth grade. Free meal for the whole family each night. Reservations required. Reservations: 724-765-0333 or northapollocog.org.

June 19: The Alle-Kiski Chapter of the American Wine Society will meet at 7 p.m. at River Forest Country Club, 130 Club House Drive. Light refreshments will be served. Donations of newspapers, pet food, toys and cash will be accepted for Action For Animals Humane Society of Latrobe.

East Vandergrift   

Friday : Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish is selling tickets for a spring cash lottery raffle. There will be two winners and each will receive $1,000 cash and a $100 gift certificate to Naser’s Foods in Apollo. The winning numbers will be the 1:30 and 7 p.m. June 13 Daily Pick 3 numbers. June 13: A car show will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at Christ the King Parish, 125 Park Lane, as part of the Leechburg 175th anniversary celebration. Check-in will begin at 3 p.m. There will be food, music and a 50-50. Legacy awards will be awarded based on historic Leechburg car dealerships. Cost: $10 in advance; $15, at the gate. Harrison   

Sunday: Burtner House Restoration Society will have a cleanup day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the homestead, 1650 Burtner Road. Lunch will be served. Everyone welcome.

Parks Township
