Kiski Area Foundation to host golf outing fundraiser

The 15th annual Jeff McAfoose Golf Classic sponsored by the Kiski Area Education Foundation will be July 29 at Willowbrook Country Club, 181 Grossheim Road, Allegheny Township.

Entry fee is $125 and includes cart, dinner, prizes, use of locker room facilities and refreshments on the course.

Sign-in and a light lunch will be at noon. and the shot-gun start will be at 1:30 p.m. Dinner, a cash bar and awards will be at 6 p.m. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder to play in Kittanning

Arts on the Allegheny will present Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder and opener the Hickory Bottom Band in a free concert Saturday at the Kittanning Riverfront Park amphitheater.

Food and beverage vendors will open at 5 p.m. The Hickory Bottom Band will play at 7 p.m. and Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder will take the stage at 8:15 p.m.

There will be a 50/50 raffle and an ATM will be onsite. No smoking or coolers are permitted, and seating is first come, first served. Reserved seating is for sponsors only. Parking meters will not be enforced and handicapped-accessible parking will be available.

Allegheny Township

June 15: Vandergrift Public Library and Tiny Trax Farm will host a free goat story time at 6 p.m. at the farm, 151 Stitt Ave. Wear old clothes and shoes. Space is limited and reservations are required. Due to limited parking, there is a one-car per family limit. Feel free to carpool. Reservations required. Reservations: 724-568-2212.

Apollo

Today: The Yarn Good Time needle arts group at Apollo Memorial Library will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. at the library, 219 N. Pennsylvania Ave. All ages and skill levels welcome. Details: 724-478-4214.

Saturday: Apollo United Presbyterian Church, 401 First St., will offer a story time, craft and small snack for children at 11 a.m. on the front steps of the church, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, the event will be indoors.

Brackenridge 

Today: The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center offers free grab-and-go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in parking lot at the center, 917 Brackenridge Ave. Free grocery items from Walmart and Aldi will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Today: Bingo will begin at 7:15 p.m. at the American Legion, 845 First Ave.

East Vandergrift

Friday: East Vandergrift Community Foundation will sponsor a Food Truck Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. on Chambers Street in the borough. There will be food vendors, beer, music, a raffle and an opportunity to socialize.

Freeport

Saturday: Freeport Kiwanis will sponsor a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at Freeport Event Center, 325 Fourth St., entrance 2. Menu: pancakes, bacon and sausage. Cost: $8; younger than 5, $4. Dine in or takeout. Proceeds will support the Freeport Community Park playground project.

Gilpin 

Today: Gilpin Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7:15 p.m. at the firehall, 113 Firehall Road.

Harrison

Today: Burtner House Restoration Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Harrison Township municipal building, 1 Municipal Drive. The upcoming strawberry festival will be discussed. New members and volunteers welcome.

Today: Friends of Allegheny Valley Community Library will meet at 10 a.m. in the library community room, 1522 Broadview Blvd. New members are welcome and there is no membership fee.

Friday: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50/50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Saturday: The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church, Harrison, will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights. Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles. First-time recipients must provide their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.

June 17: A free program about purple martin birds with speaker Ken Kostka of Natrona Heights will be at 11 a.m. at the Environmental Learning Center at Harrison Hills Park. Reservations required. Reservations: friendsofharrisonhills@gmail.com.

Jefferson

Today: Bingo will be at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion, 754 N. Pike Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. The kitchen will be open. Proceeds benefit post and auxiliary projects.

Kittanning

Today and Sunday: Armstrong County Historical Museum, 300 N. McKean St., will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. Hours may change for special events. Leechburg 

Today: The Leechburg Area Community Association’s Mingle on Market event will be from 6 to 9 p.m. along Market Street. Magic and Hot Metal Brass will perform and there will be a farmers market.

Wednesday: The book club at Leechburg Public Library will meet at 6 p.m. at the library, 139 Market St. This month’s selection will be, “The River King,” by Alice Hoffman. New members welcome. Stop by the library to reserve a copy.

Lower Burrell 

Today: Peoples Library, 3052 Wachter Ave., will offer a program, “So You Took a DNA Test…Now What?” at 6:30 p.m. at the library. Genealogist Megan Clark Young will be the speaker. Details: 724-339-1565.

Saturday: The Lower Burrell Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its new location in the parking lot at Bon Air Elementary School, 3260 Leechburg Road. There will be free food and children’s crafts and music.

Saturday: Burrell Gridiron Club will host a flea market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Burrell High School, 1021 Puckety Church Road. Spaces are available. Cost: double space, $15; triple space, $20. Oct. 22: New Kensington Moose is accepting table reservations for a fall craft and vendor show planned for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the lodge, 499 Reimer St. Spaces limited to one representative from each company on a first come, first served basis. Parks Township

Saxonburg

Friday: South Butler Community Library, 240 W. Main St., will host a discussion with Jasmine Wargo, author of “A Rover’s Story,” at 3 p.m. at the library, as part of the library’s free robotics summer series. Students in fourth through 12th grade are encouraged to attend to hear more about the four-session robotics program planned through August. Reservations are required for the robotics program. Springdale 

Today: Lower Valley Community Food Bank will distribute food from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday from the rear entrance of the Springdale borough building, 325 School St. Do not arrive before 12:45 p.m. Anyone in need of food who lives in Springdale, Springdale Township, Cheswick, Harmar and the sections of Indiana Township and West Deer with a zip code of 15024 is welcome. New recipients can register on today.

July 8: Vendor and food truck vendor applications are being accepted for Springdale Community Day set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Lincoln Avenue. There will be a car show, kids games and scavenger hunt. Volunteers are also needed. Details: 724-274-6269.

Tarentum

Washington Township

Friday: Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the firehall, 4078 Route 66. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and sales start at 6 p.m. Free coffee. The kitchen will be open. Players must be at least 18 or accompanied by an adult.
